Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of the month of Tishrei*. I do so with delay, due to the numerous occupations connected with the festivals.

You mention your state of health. You know the interpretation of our Torah, Torah of life, on the verse "Heal, he shall heal." They say: "This means that the doctor has been authorized to heal." One must therefore conform to the prescriptions of a specialist doctor in this domain.

However, it must be clear that Hashem "heals all flesh and performs wonders," that such a person and such a medication are merely an emissary and a means. One must therefore first improve one's moral conduct. Thus, one attaches oneself more firmly to Hashem, and then, "you are all alive today," with a vitality that appears evidently in all the limbs of the body.

You will redouble your ardor and enthusiasm in your study of the Torah, your practice of the mitzvos* in the best manner, and your fervent prayer. Obviously, all of this must in no way undermine your health. There is sufficient time in the day to devote oneself to the health of the soul and that of the body at once. And nothing resists the will.

במענה על מכתבו מתחלת חדש תשרי, ונתעכב המענה מפני טרדות החגים

והמועדים.

בו כותב אודות מצב בריאותו, הנה ידועה הוראת תורתנו תורת חיים על הפסוק ורפא ירפא שניתנה רשות לרופא לרפאות, ובמילא צריך למלאות הוראות רופא מומחה - במקצוע זה, אבל ביחד עם זה צריך לדעת ברור, אשר השי"ת הוא הרופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות, ואיש פלוני וסם פלוני הם רק שלוחיו ואמצעיו, ובמילא לכל לראש צריך להיטיב ולחזק מצב הבריאות ברוחניות, שעי"ז מתחזקת הדביקות בה' אלקים שאז חיים כולכם היום בחיות גלוי' ובכל האברים.

ויוסיף בהתמדה ושקידה בלימוד התורה קיום המצות בהידור ועבודת התפלה.

ומובן שכל זה אפשר להעשות מבלי לנגוע בהבריאות, ודי זמן ביום לעשות בבריאות הנשמה ולעשות בבריאות הגוף. ואז יוטב מצב בריאותו בגשמיות. ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
