Greetings and blessing,
I was told that you were worried, because you fear having committed, once or twice, an inadvertent transgression when you were in our country (Russia). Indeed, you were told that the Mikveh* was not kosher* (and that the ritual immersion of your wife was therefore not valid), but you have no details on this subject. I replied that, in my opinion, this was most likely only an illusion.
As the Alter Rebbe* says in Iggeres HaKodesh* and in Iggeres HaTeshuvah*, "those who fear Hashem have now adopted the custom of increasing their contribution to tzedakah*." Consequently, you and your wife will give — of course, without making a vow — during weekdays, before the prayer or the blessings (of the morning, which a woman also recites), a few francs more than what you currently give. Your wife will do the same before lighting the candles, on the eve of Shabbos* and the festivals. You will adopt this practice until you have collected the equivalent of fifty-three and a half dollars (see, on this subject, letters no. 3034 and 3173). Then, you will forget all of this.
May Hashem grant you long days and good years. You will derive true and Chassidic* satisfaction from all your children, in good health, materially and spiritually.

מסר לי... שי' אודות הדאגה שלו אשר בהיותו במדינתנו חושש שנכשל פעם או פעמיים בשגגה ע"י שנודע לו אשר המקוה לא היתה כשרה אבל אינו יודע הפרטים בזה, ואמרתי ל... שי' שלדעתי קרוב הדבר שאין זה אלא דמיון וכיון שכלשון רבנו הזקן באגה"ק ואגרת התשובה כל החרדים לדבר ה' נוהגים עכשיו להרבות מאד מאד בצדקה הרי הוא וזוגתו שיחיו יפרישו בל"נ כמובן בימי החול לפני התפלה או הברכות וזוגתו תחי' גם לפני הדלקת הנרות בעש"ק וערב יום טוב איזה פרנק נוספים על מה שנהגו עתה להפריש לצדקה עד שיתקבץ סכום של לערך נ"ג וחצי דולר, וישכחו על כל הענין הנ"ל, והשי"ת יאריך ימיהם ושנותיהם בטוב ויראו נחת אמיתי נחת חסידותי בכל יו"ח שיחיו מתוך בריאות הנכונה הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות.
