To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, devotes himself to communal needs, and multiplies positive accomplishments, the Rav Moshe Pinchas HaKohen (Rav M. P. Katz; see, concerning him, letters no. 20 and 3109),

Greetings and blessing,

I received with pleasure your letter, announcing good news and a blessing. You tell me, indeed, that your son Zeev Yechezkel henceforth devotes himself solely to sacred studies throughout the day. You participated in the formation of the class in which he studies, and in this way, you contributed to the merit of the many. Our Sages say that in such a case, the merit of all these people depends on you.

You will consult chapter 20 of Iggeres HaKodesh* of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and Decisor of the hidden part of the Torah, author of the Shulchan Aruch* and Decisor of the revealed part of the Torah, according to which the sacrifice (of Yitzchak) was not, in itself, as important as the tremendous eagerness that Avraham displayed in carrying it out, showing his joy and his desire to put into practice the Will of the Creator, to bring Him pleasure. You will consult this text.

It is certain that Hashem will keep His promise, expressed in our Torah, Torah of life, according to which such conduct protects and saves, and bears its fruit also in this world, as Iggeres HaKodesh*, cited above, explains.

Moreover, all of this is renewed permanently, since every day, your son will devote himself to sacred studies during the hours that would have been reserved for secular studies. And this daily repetition will bring an increased blessing, in proportion to the number of these actions (which repeat each day).

May Hashem help both of you, father and mother, so that the wish of your heart (that of having more children) be fulfilled and so that you can give good news, always and every day.

N.B.: Obviously, you may show this letter or share its content with all those who have already done as you have (enrolled their child in this class devoted to sacred studies), and all the more so with those who have not yet chosen the true good and have therefore not yet revealed all of this.

It is certain that an effort (to convince them) is never in vain, especially if you speak words emanating from your heart, which will know how to penetrate the heart.

May Hashem cause that you be a good emissary in this particularly important domain.

שלום וברכה!

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מבשר טוב וברכה, אשר סידרו את בנם זאב יחזקאל שליט"א הכהן שילמוד לימודי קדש כל היום כולו, ולקח חלק בסידור מחלקה בזה, שבמילא נעשה זה ג"כ ענין דזכות הרבים, שע"ז כבר פסקו רז"ל שזכות הרבים תלוי בו, ועיין באגה"ק - סי' כ"א - של רבנו הזקן בעל התניא - פוסק בנסתר דתורה - והשו"ע - פוסק בנגלה דתורה - אשר ענין העקדה עצמה אינה נחשבת כ"כ לגבי הענין שאברהם אבינו עשה זאת בזריזות נפלאה להראות שמחתו וחפצו למלאות רצון קונו ולעשות נח"ר ליוצרו, עיי"ש, ומובטח הקב"ה לקיים הבטחתו בתורתנו תורת חיים, אשר הנהגה כזו הרי ככתוב באגה"ק שם מגינה ומצילה בפירותי' בעוה"ז כו'.

והרי גם בענין הנ"ל נעשה הדבר פעמים רבות, כי בכל יום ויום שילמוד בנם שי' לימודי קדש באותן השעות שהי' עלול ללימודים אחרים, הרי נעשה הדבר עוד הפעם, שבמילא גם על זה חל הלימוד דתוספת ברכה הבאה לפי רוב המעשה, און השם יתברך זאל העלפען, אייך ביידען, דעם טאטען מיט דער מאמען, צו ערפילען זייער הארץ פארלאנג בקרוב ולבשר טובות תכה"י.
