Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of the second day of Rosh Chodesh* Cheshvan*. I was pleased to learn that your state of health has improved. Nevertheless, since you were hospitalized, you will conform to the prescriptions of a specialist doctor, for "the Torah has granted the doctor permission to heal."

You tell me that you have regrets about your time (feeling it is wasted). I am surprised by this, for you find yourself among Jews, and it is certain that with the appropriate effort, you will have the possibility of bringing them closer to the Torah and its mitzvos*.

Now, if a single service, material or spiritual, rendered once to a Jew, justifies the descent of a soul here below, in accordance with the saying of the Baal Shem Tov* (see, on this subject, letters no. 2641, 3019, 3176, and 3271), how much more must a good initiative, taken among those who are also hospitalized — so that they also heal in the spiritual domain — be crowned with success.

This considerable merit will enable you to increase the help of Hashem in your personal effort — Avodah*, which is of the same etymology as Oros Avudim, tanned hides (whose appearance is totally transformed; similarly, the service of Hashem transforms the personality), as various texts of Chassidus* explain.

With my blessing of success in all that has been said and for giving good news of your state of health, which will continue to improve,

במענה על מכתבו מבדר"ח חשון, נהניתי לקרות בו ע"ד הטבת מצב בריאותו וכיון שכבר נכנס לבית הבראה הרי בטח יתנהג בזה כהוראת רופא מומחה והתורה נתנה רשות לרופא לרפאות, ומ"ש שצר לו על הזמן, הרי לפלא הדבר כי הרי נמצא הוא בין יהודים אשר אין כל ספק אשר בתעמולה המתאימה יתקרבו יותר לתורה ומצותי'.

ואם בשביל טובה אחת ליהודי אחד בגשמיות או ברוחניות כדאית ירידת הנשמה למטה למשך -80;70amp& שנה, וכפתגם הבעל שם טוב הידוע, הרי עאכו"כ שבאם ירצה באמת יצליח בתעמולתו בין אלו הנמצאים אתו בבית הבראה שיבריאו ג"כ ברוחניות, וגדול זכות זה להגדיל הסייעתא דשמיא בעבודתו בעצמו, עבודה מלשון עורות עבודים, כמבואר בדא"ח בכמה מקומות.
