To the young men...

Greetings and blessing,

I reply to the question you posed to me through the intermediary of the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, of manifold accomplishments, Rav Nissan Nemanov (director of the Yeshivah* of Brunoy, in the Parisian region). You ask me, indeed, whether you should leave for the United States or for another country.

If you wish to follow my advice, in accordance with what I have already written (see letter no. 2730), you will meditate on the great kindness that Hashem has granted you. He has enabled you to perceive the beneficent light found in the Torah, that is, its profound teaching which, in our era, is expressed and explained by Chassidus*, introduced by the Baal Shem Tov* and especially by Chassidus* Chabad*, introduced by the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and Decisor of the hidden part of the Torah, author of the Shulchan Aruch* and Decisor of the revealed part of the Torah, successor of the Maggid*, the great disciple of the Baal Shem Tov*, who occupied his place.

You must therefore take advantage of every moment at your disposal — that is, the one which, according to the organization of the Yeshivah*, is not devoted to the revealed part of the Torah — in order to study Chassidus*, to acquire its knowledge and to deepen it. And our Sages say that "the practice is essential, and not the study." You must therefore adopt its customs and its practices.

Consequently, the thought of going to another place issues from the domain of evil and the evil inclination. The latter is expert in its way of seducing man and convincing him. It can therefore take the appearance of the good inclination, convincing that the journey and settling in another place will enable one to study better.

Now, the success granted by Hashem is specifically accorded to those who reside in the tent of the study of Torah, the Wisdom of the Holy One, blessed be He, which leaves no room for the arguments of the "old and foolish king" (the evil inclination), as long as man does not persist and does not himself seek to stimulate his evil inclination.

I am not addressing fools and I am therefore convinced that you will redouble your ardor in the study of the revealed part of the Torah and of Chassidus*, in fervent prayer and in the fulfillment of the Mitzvos* in the best manner. Thus, within a time that will not be distant, you will reap the fruit of your efforts.

במענה על שאלתם ע"י הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ איש רב פעלים הרב מוה"ר ניסן שי' נעמאנאוו, אם יחשבו על דבר נסיעה לארצות הברית או למדינה אחרת.

הנה אם לדעתי ישמעו, ומתאים למה שכתבתי מאז, יתבוננו בהחסד הגדול אשר עשה השם יתברך עמהם, וזיכה אותם שיראו האור כי טוב הגנוז בתורה, היא פנימיות התורה, אשר בדורנו נמצאת ונתבארה בתורת החסידות, מיסודה של כ"ק אדמו"ר הבעל שם טוב, ובפרט בתורת החסידות חב"ד מיסודה של רבנו הזקן בעל התניא קדישא - פוסק בנסתר שבתורה - והשולחן ערוך - פוסק בנגלה דתורה - ממלא מקום תלמידו המיוחד וממלא מקורו של הבעל שם טוב הוא כ"ק אדמו"ר הרב

המגיד - נ"ע - ובמילא ינצלו כל רגע שיש ברשותם - היינו שעל פי סדרי הישיבה אינו שייך זמן זה ללמוד הנגלה, ללמוד, למיגרס ולעיונא, תורת החסידות, וע"פ מרז"ל לא המדרש עיקר אלא המעשה להתנהג בהדרכותי' ומנהגי'.

ומזה מובן, אשר נסיעה וטלטול לאיזה מקום שיהי' - מחשבות אלו באות הן מהלעומת זה ויצר הרע, אשר שכיון שאומן הוא בהסתתו ופיתוייו מתלבש הוא בלבושי יצר טוב, ורוצה לפתותם שטלטול הדרך ונסיעה למקום אחר וכו' יביאו להם תועלת בלימודיהם, וסייעתא דשמיא באה ביחוד לאלו הנמצאים באהלה של תורה, שהוא חכמתו של הקב"ה, שהחכמה אינה נותנת מקום לפיתוייו דמלך זקן וכסיל, (באם רק האדם עצמו אינו מתעקש ומגרה עליו יצרו הרע).

וכיון דלא בשופטני עסקינן, מובטחני אשר יוסיפו בשקידה בלימוד הנגלה ולימוד החסידות ועבודת התפלה וקיום המצות בהידור, אשר אז, במשך זמן לא ארוך, יראו, גם בעיני בשר, פרי טוב בעמלם.
