To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Yechezkel HaKohen (Rav Y. Deren), the Shochet*,
Greetings and blessing,
I have duly received your letter informing me that your son Yisrael HaKohen has just turned four years old. It is said that during the fourth year (of a fruit tree), all the fruits are consecrated to Hashem, as the Midrash Tanchuma* explains (see also letter no. 2626). You will also consult the beginning of the laws of Torah study of the Alter Rebbe* and the Shulchan Aruch* Yoreh Deah, chapter 245, paragraph 5, in the note.
In this way, Hashem will cause, when the father consecrates his child to Torah for His honor, that this holiness be revealed in his education from the fifth year onward. Thus, you will educate all your children to Torah, to the wedding canopy, and to good deeds, in good health and in fullness, together with your wife.

הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שמתאים למ"ש במדרש תנחומא ועיין ג"כ הלכות ת"ת לרבנו הזקן בתחלתו ובשו"ע יו"ד סי' רמ"ה סעיף ה' בהגהה, הרי לאחר שבשנה הרביעית יהי' כל פריו קדש כשאביו מקדשו לתורה הילולים לד', הרי משנה חמישית ואילך, ימשיכו קדושה זו בחינוכו, ויגדלוהו בריא ושלם הוא וזוגתו שיחיו את כל ילידי' שיחיו, לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים.
