To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Avraham Sender (Rav A. S. Nemtsov; see, concerning him, letter no. 2984), the Shochet*,

Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of Monday of Parshas Noach*. No doubt you received, in its time, my letter, which was accompanied by a brochure.

By an effect of Divine Providence, I obtained precisely these days a copy of a Chassidic* discourse of the Tzemach Tzedek*, while in your letter you cited the verse "Do not cast us away in the time of old age," as explained by the Shulchan Aruch* Orach Chaim, at the beginning of chapter 171, and that of the Alter Rebbe*, at the end of chapter 167. Now, I found the explanation of this verse in chapter 7 of this Chassidic* discourse. I discovered it thanks to you and I therefore reproduce this commentary in these lines:

"The Or HaMeir, citing the Baal Shem Tov*, raises a question on this verse. Does this mean that when one is young, one does not need Hashem? The Tzemach Tzedek*, in a Chassidic* discourse entitled 'And Hashem went before them' (Or HaTorah Beshalach, beginning of page 383), answers this question, based on the statement of our Sages, at the end of the eighth chapter of tractate Bava Kamma, 'when we were children,' and the Midrash* Devarim Rabbah Shoftim, paragraph 7, 'for Israel is a young man and I love him.' And the child is more naturally submissive than the Sage."

במענה על מכתבו מב' נח, בטח קבל מכתבי עם החוברת בזמנה... הנה ראיתי ג"כ השגחה פרטית שדוקא ימים אלו נזדמן לי העתקה מאמר אדמו"ר הצ"צ, ובאשר כת"ר כתב לי בהענין דאל תשליכנו (יעוין שו"ע או"ח רסקע"א. בשו"ע אדה"ז סו"ס קס"ז) לעת זקנה עמדתי ג"כ על ביאור הנ"ל בהמאמר שם על פ"ז, ובהיותו גרם לזה הנני מעתיק שורות אלו, וזהו תוכן הענין.

באוה"מ יתרו בשם הבעש"ט, אטו בעת נעורינו א"צ לעזרתו. ומתרץ הצ"צ (בד"ה וה' הולך) שהוא ע"פ מרז"ל ב"ק ספ"ח כד הוינא זוטרי' כו' ודב"ר שופטים פ"ז, כי נער ישראל ואוהבהו, בקטן ביטול יותר מבחכם.
