Greetings and blessing,

What will communal activities be in the future? It seems that after all that has been accomplished, after all that one has been able to observe with one's own eyes — and, thank Hashem, visible and tangible good has been revealed on various occasions — controversy and political maneuvering cause one to remain indifferent (see also letters no. 3059 and 3090).

The efforts of our holy masters so that your actions be fruitful remain in vain. The moment has finally come for those who take part in these activities to understand that Chassidus* exists in the world, that it must be disseminated, including externally and, all the more so, internally.

The most fundamental point is that this does not concern what is written in books or ideas upon which one must meditate before praying or at certain propitious moments, but rather what concerns each of you personally, even if all know what their situation is. How much more do our holy masters know it. Now, they have chosen you to be their emissaries, to disseminate this teaching and its practices in "the land upon which the eyes of Hashem are always turned, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year" (the Holy Land).

You will well understand the lesson that follows from all of this. It is expressed in Iggeres HaKodesh*, chapter 24. During the many generations that separate the giving of the Torah from the present period, there have been righteous men, great souls, of lofty elevation. Despite this, the glory of the King was hidden and various guards stood before His door, even though those who wished to behold His honor were numerous.

In our generation and in our era, He has wished to reveal Himself and He has chosen certain persons to make Him known to all, to show His sovereignty and His glory. Yet one refuses to assume this mission in order to defend one's so-called self-respect and one's base political positions. Moreover, some use this mission to sow discord and resentment. Such a situation can be compared to what the Tanya* says at the end of chapter 24 — the image of one who holds (the head of the King and brings it into a place of filth). You will consult this text.

And regarding all the explanations formulated so that "it is not I who wrote it, but this tailor" (referring to justifications implying that someone else is responsible), you know the saying of the Rebbe Maharash* according to which "one does not deceive Hashem. One does not deceive other people either. One can at best deceive oneself" (see, on this subject, letter no. 2991).
