To my close relative, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, has good conduct, and descends from an illustrious family, the Rav Shmuel Abba (Rav Sh. A. Shapiro; see, concerning him, letter no. 2966),

Greetings and blessing,

I have duly received all your letters and my response has been delayed until now because, for a certain reason, I was unable to photocopy your letters until yesterday. Now, I wished to return to you the originals, which belong to you, since they were addressed to you. It is therefore for this reason that my response was delayed and please excuse me for this.

On the threshold of Kislev*, month of miracles and deliverance, linked to the light and the luminary (Chanukah* and 19 Kislev*), may Hashem cause each person to receive increased illumination in his material and spiritual concerns. In addition to the intrinsic effect of the light, it also enables one to evaluate and distinguish, in everything that constitutes the life of man, evil and good, falsehood and truth. Thenceforth, one can advance with confidence on the path of life.

I thank you once more for the Sefer Torah* (see, on this subject, letter no. 2966). I wish with all my heart that each of us observe, of his own free will and not due to having received an order, that "He has kept us alive, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this moment" (the blessing of Shehecheyanu*, which is recited in particular at Chanukah*). One will do so with joy, as the content of this blessing indicates, recited regarding what is good and joyful.

שלום וברכה!

מאשר הנני בזה קבלת מכתביו מאז. ונתעכב המענה שלי עד עתה, כיון שמפני סיבה לא עלתה בידי לעשות צילום מהמכתבים עד אתמול. וכיון שרציתי להחזיר לו גוף המכתבים (אשר אליו שייכים כיון שאליו נשלחו) נתעכב גם המענה, ואתו רוב הסליחה.

ובהכנסנו לחדש כסלו הוא חדש הנסים והגאולה, ונסים וגאולה קשורים עם הפצת אור ומאור. יה"ר שיתוסף ג"כ בהאור שבתוככי כל אחד ואחד הן בענינים גשמים והן בענינים רוחנים. והרי נוסף על פעולת האור מצד עצמו הנה על ידו מעריכים ומבחינים בכל הענינים אשר בחיי האדם בין רע לטוב ובין שקר לאמת. ובמילא אפשר ללכת בטח בדרך החיים.

ות"ח עוד הפעם על ענין הס"ת. ובאיחולים לבביים אשר בחפץ לב ורצון ולא רק מפני הציווי יאמר כל אחד מאתנו בימים אלו, שהחיינו וקימנו והגיענו לזמן הזה, ויעשה זה מתוך שמחה כמובן מתוכן הברכה שהיא על ענינים טובים ומשמחים.
