Greetings and blessing,

I do not remember exactly whether I have already written to you about the following subject. I will therefore formulate my remarks briefly.

You surely know that I seek books of varied content, in different languages, insofar as they pertain to Jews and Judaism. Obviously, I seek only those that are uncommon.

In general, this is how we proceed. These books are sent, as a donation, to the library near me (see, on this subject, letter no. 2965) or they are exchanged for works published by the Kehot* editions, which enables the dissemination of books of Chassidus* in places where they would not otherwise be found.

Very often, such books are found in various synagogues, where they are brought by the descendants of Torah scholars who themselves possess no knowledge of them. There, they remain completely unused (literally, "like a stone that no one turns over"), even though books of the Chumash* or Tehillim* are lacking (in these synagogues).

It would be good for you to intervene in this matter, in a diplomatic manner. If you find such books, you will determine the best means of putting all of this into practice (sending these books to the library). Of course, you will do so in consultation with the Chassidim* who are on the spot.

With my blessing that you very soon have better health and to give good news of your collection of material goods (for the institutions of Torah; see, on this subject, letter no. 3070) and of your planting of spirituality, in all the domains just mentioned,

... אינני זוכר ברור אם כבר כתבתי לו ע"ד הבא לקמן. ולכן אבוא עכ"פ בקיצור, והוא:

בודאי ידוע לו שמחפש הנני אחרי ספרים בתוכן שונה ואפי' בלשונות שונים ובלבד שיהי' להם שייכות ליהודים ויהדות (מובן שאין הכוונה בזה לספרים בלתי מצוים), ובכלל הסדר הוא, ששולחים זה בתור תשורה להספרי' שעל ידי או שמחליפים על הנדפס ע"י קה"ת (ובמילא עי"ז באים ספרי חסידות לאלו ובמקומות שלולי זאת לא היו נמצאים שם). והנה לפעמים תכופות נמצאים ספרים מסוג הנ"ל בבתי כנסיות שונים אשר הביאום לשם יו"ח אנשים בעלי תורה אשר בניהם אין להם ידיעה בזה ומונחים הספרים כאבן שאין לה הופכים, בה בשעה שחסרים להם חומשים תהלים וכיו"ב.

ובמילא כדאי שיודע עד"ז באופן דיפלומטי, ואם ימצא ספרים מסוג הנ"ל בטח בהתייעצות עם אנ"ש על אתר ימצא אופן המתאים להביא הנ"ל לידי פועל...
