To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Avraham (Rav A. Laufer, of Asmara), the Shochet*,

Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of 1 Kislev*. You say that all those who promise to come attend your Torah* class do not keep their commitment, but you should not be affected by this. Our Sages cite, in tractate Berachos* 5a, three things that are acquired through suffering. Torah* is one of them.

Nevertheless, it is certain that an effort is never in vain, and if you make the necessary one, there is no doubt that the participants in your classes will multiply.

It is surely unnecessary to remind you of the necessity of preparing properly for the luminous day of 19 Kislev* (the festival of the liberation of the Alter Rebbe*), that of our deliverance and the liberation of our souls. When the Alter Rebbe* was liberated, Chassidus* in general and the teaching of Chabad* also achieved victory.

Divine Providence has led you to a place where you are, for the time being, one of the few Chabad* Chassidim*. You must therefore assume this mission and spread the wellsprings outward. You surely know the statement of the Baal Shem Tov* according to which this is a preparation and a receptacle for the deliverance of all Israel, the complete and true Redemption.

May Hashem grant that the Chassidic* farbrengen* be a great success, that you take good resolutions there, on the occasion of the Rosh Hashanah* of Chassidus*, for the entire year.

I greet all those who are with you, in particular the Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Chaim Herman, the Shochet*, whose silence is surely a sign that all is well with him.

במענה על מכתבו מא' כסלו. אין להתפעל ממה שלא כל אלו שהבטיחו לבוא לשיעור תורה באים, וכבר ידוע פסק רז"ל (ברכות ה' ע"א) אשר שלשה דברים באים ע"י יסורים ואחד מהם תורה, אבל חזקה לתעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם ובתעמולה המתאימה בודאי יתרבו המשתתפים בשיעורים.

בודאי למותר לעוררו על ההכנה המתאימה ליום הבהיר י"ט כסלו הוא יום גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו, היציאה לחפשי של רבנו הזקן ואתו עמו נצחון תורת החסידות הכללית ותורת חב"ד. וכיון שההשגחה עליונה הביאתו למקום שהוא לע"ע אחד מחסידי חב"ד עליו גם למלאות התפקיד דהפצת המעיינות חוצה. ובודאי נודע לו האמור מהבעש"ט שזהו הכנה וכלי לגאולת כל ישראל גאולה השלימה והאמיתית. ויה"ר שתהי' ההתועדות בהצלחה ובקבלת החלטות טובות מר"ה לחסידות על כל השנה כולה.
