11 Kislev* 5715,
Brooklyn.

Greetings and blessing,

I received with pleasure your letter of 8 Kislev*, which came after an interruption. You write to me that your state of health has improved. I think, like that professor, that the reason for all of this is the sorrow you have experienced. In more precise terms, this means that the cause is a lack of determination and trust in Hashem, Who created the world and, moreover, directs it through His Divine Providence, down to the smallest detail of the life of a Jew.

When one meditates intensely on all of this, one arrives at the conclusion that "Hashem is with me; I do not fear what man can do to me." Thus, King David, finding himself in a situation that was not favorable to him, said: "No evil will befall me, for You are with me." And in this way, in the end, he achieved victory, even in those unfavorable situations.

This account is mentioned by the Torah*, of the same etymology as Hora'ah*, meaning teaching. It must therefore deliver a teaching to every Jew, in every place where he finds himself. Thus, one who takes the firm resolution that "You are with me" can be certain, as the end of that verse says, that "only goodness and kindness will pursue me, all the days of my life."

May Hashem grant that you take this resolution as soon as possible, in the spiritual and material domains alike. In this way, with peace of mind and heart, you will be able to participate in communal activities and strengthen Jewish values, in the spirit of Tradition, within your community.

I enclose a pamphlet relating to 19 Kislev*, of which you will surely make the best use, by conveying its content to the members of your community.

With my blessing,
