Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of 3 Kislev*, to which was attached the report of your activities during the months of Elul* and Tishrei* past. I am surprised to have received it with such delay, all the more so since it is, moreover, extremely concise.

The Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Y. L. Cohen, has surely conveyed to you, even before I received your letter, the content of the letter I addressed to him (Rav Michoel Yehudah Leib Cohen; this is letter no. 3059), for the portion that concerns the youth of the Chabad* Association. Indeed, I had to include this passage in my response to the letter of Rav Cohen, although it concerns all the youth of the Chabad* Association. The present letter therefore follows upon that one, and consequently your response will address both that letter and this one.

I send you several prepaid shipping vouchers, as a contribution to the expenses of the Bitaon* (Bitaon Chabad*, the organ of the youth of the Chabad* Association; this is specifically issue no. 7, published on 19 Kislev* 5715) and to the campaign of 19 Kislev* (the festival of the liberation of the Alter Rebbe* from the Czarist prisons), which is approaching. If it is possible, without too many difficulties, it would be good to also make use of the days of Chanukah* in the appropriate manner. The Chassidic* discourses relating to this festival explain that the opposition was directed against the luminary of the Torah*. Indeed, they (the Greeks) wished "to make them forget Your Torah* (the 'Yours' — that is, the luminary) and to make them transgress the Decrees of Your Will." Thus, a comparison is introduced here, and it is indeed "Decrees" (those that transcend reason and thus emanate from the luminary) that are at issue. In general, every opportunity to conduct a campaign must be seized.

If it is useful for you to give, as a reward, prizes consisting of works published by the Kehot* editions — obviously without incurring great expenses and in a symbolic manner — you will let me know the titles of these books, the manner of using them, and what you expect from them.

I am surprised that you do not mention the help provided to you by the various administrations that have long been active in these areas.

You surely know the Chazon Ishaya organization, which, it seems, resembles Tiferes Bachurim* — the one that existed in the country where we previously were (in Russia, where this organization provided a network of classes for working youth; see letter no. 3059). It would be good for you to consider having a similar activity. It is said that this organization develops practically without any cost.

You mention a Yeshivah* in which the study of Tanya* is being obstructed. You will explain the reasons to me, at least those that were given. Have you spoken of this to the one who, it seems, has a say in this institution? This man was in Rostov. He had the merit of seeing the Rebbe Rashab* and my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us. It is therefore difficult to imagine that he could express opposition in this matter.

It would be good to consider whether it could be useful to publish what you accomplish in the appropriate newspapers. If so, one should mention the names of the leaders and those who assist them on the spot. This will surely strengthen motivation and inspire a desire to help again the next time.

I send you my blessing of success in your sacred mission, in particular on the occasion of the luminous day of 19 Kislev*. The self-sacrifice (of the Alter Rebbe*) for Chassidus* led the Heavenly Court to rule that, in all matters concerning Torah*, fear of Heaven and proper conduct, those who are attached to him and follow his path would prevail (see, on this subject, letters no. 2395 and 3103). You will consult the summaries and notes on the Tanya*, at the end of page 122.

במענה על מכתבם מג' כסלו בצירוף הדו"ח מפעולותיהם בחדש אלול ותשרי העבר (ולפלא שנתעכב כ"כ, ובפרט שגם עתה בא בקיצור נמרץ).

הנה בוודאי מסר הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ מוהרי"ל שי' הכהן מתוכן מכתבי אליו בחלק השייך לצעירי אגו"ח בכללות, וע"פ מה שכתבתי לו, שאין מהנמוס לענות להנהלת צעירי אגו"ח קודם קבלת מכתבם הם, ולכן מוכרחני לכלול גם את זה בהמענה שלי על מכתב הנ"ל, אף ששייך לכל חברי צעירי אגו"ח. ובמילא מכתבי זה בא בהמשך להנ"ל ובודאי גם המענה שלהם יהי' על הנ"ל ועל מכתבי זה.

מוסג"פ איזה סקריפ בתור חלק והשתתפות בהוצאת הבטאון ובתעמולת י"ט כסלו הבע"ל. ואם תהי' אפשריות בלי קישויים יתרים כדאי הי' לנצל גם ימי חנוכה באופן המתאים. ובפרט ע"פ המבואר בדרושי חנוכה, אשר ההתנגדות היתה על המאור שבתורה, וכדיוק הלשון להשכיחם תורתך ולהעבירם על חקי רצונך, בתוספת כ"ף וחוקים דוקא.

ובכלל הרי צריך לחפש הזדמנות לתעמולה.

אם תהי' תועלת לעבודתם בנתינת פרסים מעניני הדפוס דהוצאת קה"ת - כמובן מבלי הוצאות יתירות ובאופן סמלי, יודיעוני שמות הספרים והכמות והאופן שרוצים להשתמש בזה והתועלת שצפוי' בדבר.

לפלא שאין מזכירים דבר ע"ד הסיוע ממשרדים השונים - שמזמן עסקו בזה.

בודאי ידוע להם אודות הארגון חזון ישעי', שכפי הסיפור הוא מעין תפארת בחורים שבמדינתו לפנים, וכדאי שיתבוננו על אפשריות דעבודה כזו גם מצדם, וכפי השמועה מתפתח ארגון הנ"ל בלי הוצאות כספיות כמעט.

בטח יודיעוני הטעמים - הגלוים עכ"פ - שבסיבתם מפריעים לימוד התניא בישיבת...

ואם דברו בזה עם... שכמדומה לי הוא הבעל דיעה שם, שהי' ברוסטוב וזכה לראות את כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) וכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר - זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע. ובמילא קשה להאמין שהוא ינגד לזה.

כדאי הי' להתבונן אם יש תועלת בפרסום עבודתם במכ"ע המתאימים שלכאורה אז יש מקום להזכיר את העסקנים והמסייעים על אתר, שבודאי עי"ז יתוסף בהם חשק ורצון לסייע בידם בפעם הבאה.

בברכת הצלחה בעבודתם בקדש, וביחוד לרגל יום הבהיר י"ט כסלו, אשר בגלל המסירת הנפש הלזו על תורת החסידות פסקו בבי"ד של מעלה, אשר בכל ענין של תורה יראת שמים ומדות טובות תהי' יד מקושריו והולכי בעקבותיו על העליונה (עיין קיצורים והערות לתניא סוף עמוד קכ"ב).
