and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessing,

I have received your letter of 3 Kislev* and I am surprised that you mention the Yeshivah* (of Melbourne, in Australia) and its situation so briefly. In any event, what matters above all is that it grow and develop, materially and spiritually, quantitatively and qualitatively. And nothing can withstand the will.

This is particularly the case during these propitious days, especially on the luminous date of 19 Kislev*. You know, indeed, the ruling of the Heavenly Court (see, on this subject, letter no. 3100), according to which, thanks to the self-sacrifice displayed by the Alter Rebbe* for Chassidus*, those who are attached to him and follow his path would prevail in all matters concerning Torah*, fear of Heaven and proper conduct.

I enclose my response to that man and to his daughter. You will explain to the latter the great merit that the opportunity presenting itself to her constitutes — to be among the first to take a positive initiative and to reject every other attitude, by covering her head and by the manner in which she will conduct her household. It depends on her, now, to acquire this merit before all. Thenceforth, the merit of others will depend on hers.

The Zohar*, Parshas* Nasso*, page 126a, specifies the importance of this, furthermore, regarding marital harmony. Indeed, when this principle is called into question in these countries, fears result that were not known in the country where one previously resided (in Eastern Europe), due to the sufferings and persecutions.

נתקבל מכתבו מג' כסלו ולפלא שמקצר כ"כ בכתיבה ע"ד הישיבה ומצבה. ובכ"ז הנה העיקר שירבו בהנוגע לפועל ולהגדלתה ולהתפתחותה הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות, הן בכמות והן באיכות, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון. ובפרט בימי סגולה האלו, וביום הבהיר י"ט כסלו ביחוד, וכנודע מפסק בי"ד של מעלה אשר בגלל המסירות נפש הלזו - של כ"ק רבנו הזקן - על תורת החסידות, הנה בכל ענין של תורה יראת שמים ומדות טובות תהי' יד מקושריו והולכי בעקבותיו על העליונה.

מוסג"פ מכתבי מענה [ל]מר... ובתו תחי'. ובודאי מצדו יסביר לבתו את גודל הזכות בההזדמנות עתה להיות מהפורצי גדר למעליותא, היינו גדר ומנהג דלעו"ז... בהנוגע לכיסוי הראש והנהגת הבית. ובידה לזכות עתה את הרבים שאז זכות הרבים תלוי בה, וע"פ המבואר בזהר בפ' נשא קכ"ו ע"א מובן שזה נוגע ג"כ נוסף על ענינים הנ"ל בעניני שלום בית... ענין הנ"ל בחו"ל כשיש בו פרצה ה"ז נותן מקום לענינים ולחששות, שבמדינתנו לפנים לא הי' לחשוש אודותם מפני הדוחק והלחץ וכו'...
