I have just received your letter of 7 Kislev* and, on this matter, I have already asked (see, on this subject, letter no. 1976) my secretariat that the name Mendel be spelled with an Ayin* (this is presumably not how Rav Slonim had written the Rebbe's name in the documents he had sent him), as indicated in the books that list names. Above all, this is how the Tzemach Tzedek* wrote it — the numerical value of Menachem Mendel (the numerical value of Menachem and Tzemach is one hundred and thirty-eight; the numerical value of Mendel and Tzedek is one hundred and ninety-four). You will therefore correct this on the letterhead of the Kollel* (Chabad*, bearing the mention that it is under the auspices of the Rebbe; Rav Slonim directed the Kollel* Chabad*).

I thank you for informing me of the good news that a Chabad* prayer service has indeed been established in the Shaarei Chesed* neighborhood. It will be a place of prayer, but also a place of study, since classes will be given there on a fixed basis, on the revealed part of the Torah* and on Chassidus*.

One of the classes on the revealed part of the Torah* will deal, in particular, with the Halachos* that are necessary for daily life (see letters no. 3048 and 3091). The same will apply to the teachings that will be given in the other Chabad* synagogues and, if I had the power, I would have established that the same be done in all Jewish communities, regardless of their affiliation, particularly in a place of prayer, as the Sages explain, commenting on the verse: "Hashem loves the gates (Sha'ar*, of the same etymology as Shi'ur*, meaning a class/teaching) of Tzion*, among all the sanctuaries of Yaakov*."

I thank you for informing me that you have received the books from the Rav Kook Institute (see, on this subject, letters no. 2965 and 3026). Those who have the possibility will surely help you obtain the necessary authorizations to send them here. Persons traveling from there to here can also help transport them.

I enclose a pamphlet published on the occasion of the festival of liberation of 19 Kislev*, which is approaching. You will surely make its content available to the greatest number.

ז"ע נתקבל מכתבו מז' כסלו. ודא"ג זה מכתב בקשתי שיעוררו מהמזכירות אשר השם מענדל צ"ל כתוב בעי"ן כמבואר בספרי שמות, ובעיקר כי כן כותב כ"ק אדמו"ר הצמח צדק (בגימטריא מנחם מענדל) ובטח יתקנו את זה בגליונות הכולל.

ת"ח על הבשו"ט שעלה בידם לרכז מנין חב"ד בשכונת שערי חסד, ואשר נוסף שיהי' זה מקום תפלה ה"ה יהי' ג"כ מקום תורה שיעורי לימוד קבועים הן בתורת הנגלה והן בתורת החסידות, ובודאי בלימוד הנגלה יהי' ג"כ שיעור בהלכות הצריכות בחיי היום יומי וה"ה להשיעורים בשאר בתי כנסיות חב"ד, כי אי איישר חילי הייתי מתקן את זה בכל מקום קבוץ בני ישראל מאיזה סוג שיהי' ובפרט בבתי תפלה, וכידוע דרשת רז"ל על הפסוק אוהב ה' שערי ציון מכל מש[כ]נות יעקב.
