To the young man Aharon (A. Serebrianski, of Melbourne, Australia; see, on this subject, letter no. 3330),

Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of 14 Kislev*. As you request, I will mention those you cite in your letter near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, so that they obtain the satisfaction of their needs, according to what you write.

I now come to the response to your question. It would indeed be good for you to learn the language of the country (English), which will enable you to exercise a positive influence on young people who speak no other language and to bring them back to Jewish practice. Obviously, I do not mean that you should learn it down to the last detail. You will seek only to satisfy this objective. I therefore hope that this will not take too much time.

I send you my blessing of success in your sacred mission of drawing Jewish hearts closer to our Father Who is in Heaven. And may the promise of the Alter Rebbe*, expressed at the beginning of the Torah Or*, be fulfilled — that "one obtains a mind and a heart a thousand times more refined" (see, on this subject, letters no. 3101 and 3119).

במענה על מכתבו מי"ד כסלו, הנה כבקשתו אזכיר את כל אלו שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע להמצטרך להם כפי שכותב.

ובמענה על שאלתו. כדאי הי' שיתלמד לדבר בשפת המדינה כיון שעי"ז תהי' לו האפשרית להשפיע ולקרב ליהדות גם את אלו מהנוער שאין מבינים שפה אחרת, ומובן שאין כוונתי להתלמד בכל הפרטים אלא בהנוגע להנ"ל ובמילא תקותי שלא יקח זה זמן רב.

בברכת הצלחה בעבודתו בקדש לקרב לבן של ישראל לאבינו שבשמים ושתקוים בו הבטחת רבנו הזקן בתו"א בתחלתו שנעשים מוחו ולבו זכים אלף פעמים ככה.
