Greetings and blessing,

On the occasion of the luminous day of 19 Kislev*, I send you the pamphlet that was published for this festival of our liberation and the deliverance of our souls (in the expression of the Rebbe Rashab*).

I received recently the visit of Rav Hutner (a collaborator of Rav Zevin in the editing of the Talmudic Encyclopedia). We discussed at length and briefly (for much more could have been said) regarding the Talmudic Encyclopedia and his other projects. I also expressed my opinion, which converges with yours, and I said that if the articles (of the Talmudic Encyclopedia) were also written here (in the United States), even if they were subsequently sent to you for review, not only would this not reduce the workload, but moreover, disorder would result from changes of opinion.

I clearly saw that he did not accept my point of view. But he did not give me the deeper motivation for this, which is linked to the assistance that can be provided to put all of this in order. I therefore did not insist.

In this connection, he also told me that one might perhaps think about a second edition of the Encyclopedia. I indicated to him that in my view, it was indispensable that the paper and binding be of better quality than at present. This is an expenditure that will facilitate income.

שלום וברכה!

בקשר עם יום הבהיר הוא י"ט כסלו, הנה מוסג"פ הקונטרס שהו"ל לחג זה גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו.

ביקר אותי ימים אלו הרב הוטנער שי', ושוחחנו ארוכות וקצרות בהנוגע לאנציקלופדיא התלמודית וכן בשאר התכניות שלו. ואמרתי לו ג"כ דעתי, מסכמת לדעתו של כת"ר, אשר אם יתעסקו בכתיבת הערכין גם כאן, הרי אף שאחר זה יושלחו לידי כת"ר, יש מקום לומר שלא רק שלא ימעטו בהעבודה, אלא אדרבה יהי' בלבולים בשינוי דיעות וכו'. וראיתי שאינו מקבל את זה. אבל כיון שלא אמר לי טעמו הפנימי, שהוא בהשייך להעזר הקשור בסידור כהנ"ל, במילא לא התעכבתי על ענין זה.

דא"ג אמר לי הנ"ל, שאפשר שיוכרחו לחשוב ע"ד הוצאה שני' של האנציקלופדיא.

והעירותיו על המוכרח לפ"ד, שיהי' הנייר וגם הכריכה טובות יותר מאשר עד עתה, וזוהי הוצאה שמועלת להגדיל ההכנסה...
