To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Yaakov Asher (Rav Y. A. Teller, of London), the Shochet*,

Greetings and blessing,

I received with pleasure your letter of 21 Kislev*, which came after a long interruption. I read therein that you teach the Tanya* to members of the community. You take part in Chassidic* farbrengens* and you contribute to strengthening the institutions. May Hashem help you to do so in an ever-increasing manner.

Moreover, the days of Chanukah* deliver the same teaching. This name is indeed constituted of the initials of the phrase meaning "eight candles, and the Halachah* is decided according to the opinion of Beis Hillel*" (who requires that these candles be lit in ascending order). An increase is therefore necessary. From one day to the next, one must illuminate in an even more intense manner.

There is in this a teaching for every Jew. One must indeed illuminate each day through "the candle that is a Mitzvah* and the Torah* that is a light," through the luminary of the Torah*, which is its inner dimension.

With my blessing of success in all that has just been said, and greetings to all those who take part in your classes,

בשמחה קבלתי את מכתבו מזאת חנוכה ,בו כותב אודות

ההתוועדות של יום הבהיר י״ט כסלו חג גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו .וכמובן

מאליו ,בשמחה מיוחדת לראות במכתבו את קירוב הלבבות שנתהווה,

ובפרט לגבי מה שכתב במכתביו הקודמים ,ובזה גם הסייעתא מבעל

השמחה די״ט כסלו ,כפי שאדמו״ר הזקן כותב במכתבו בנוגע לגאולתו,

שהיתה כאשר אמר את הפסוק פדה בשלום נפשי )שכך הי׳ גם אצל

אדמו״ר האמצעי(.

והנני מקוה שקירוב הלבבות יתבטא גם בהפצת המעיינות חוצה.

במילים אחרות ,שימשיכו זאת וירתקו גם כאלו אשר ,לעת עתה,

נמצאים עדיין בחוצה ,ויזכו גם אותם עם מעיינות הבעל שם טוב

ותלמידיו ורבנו הזקן ותלמידיו.

ואשרי חלקו ,שיכול לעשות בזה לא רק כאיש פרטי אלא כגבאי,

היינו כממונה על יהודים רבים ,והרי כל התמנות היא בהשגחה פרטית

העליונה .ובמילא לשמש גם להשלים את רצון העליון אשר -משתשקע

החמה יהי׳ מוסיף והולך ,שעד שיהי׳ אור במידה כזו שלילה כיום יאיר.
