and devotes himself to communal needs,
Rav Moshe Eliyahu (Rav M. E. Gerlitzki; see, on this subject, letters no. 28 and 64),

Greetings and blessing,

I have duly received the request for a blessing that you sent me for this woman. I am surprised that you tell me nothing of her situation regarding fear of Hashem. Now, I have already asked that this information be communicated to me when one intercedes for someone.

Obviously, my purpose is not to conduct an investigation or research, but rather to find a teaching, a hint in the particular event for which a blessing is needed — that is, for which a deficiency is observed (materially, which must necessarily have a spiritual source).

For when one observes a deficiency in a Jewish man or woman, one must know that its origin is necessarily spiritual. This is quite obvious.

As you request, I will mention her name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us. For your part, you will ask this woman, residing in your city, to intervene with her daughter so that she improve her observance of the Mitzvos*.

I am surprised to have received from you no news of the Chassidic* farbrengen* on the luminous day of 19 Kislev*, and especially of the good resolutions taken on that occasion, which will be applied concretely throughout the year. No doubt you will provide me with these details at the next opportunity.

נתקבל הפ"נ שלו עבור מרת... תי' ולפלא שאינו מזכיר ע"ד מצבה ביראת שמים וכו', אף שזה כמה פעמים בקשתי את אלו הכותבים בכגון דא לצרף גם ידיעות אלו.

ופשיטא שאין כוונתי בזה לחפש ולדקדק, אלא, למצוא את ההוראה והרמז במאורע פרטי הדורש ברכה, היינו שלע"ע יש חסרון, וחסרון באיזה ענין שהוא אצל בן ובת ישראל, בטח יש לזה שייכות לחסרון ברוחניות ופשוט.

כבקשתו אזכיר את הנ"ל על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ועכ"פ מצדו יעורר את אם הנ"ל הנמצאת במחנו שהיא תעורר את בתה ע"ד השיפור בעניני מצות.

לפלא שאין מהם ידיעות ע"ד התועדות דיום הבהיר הוא י"ט כסלו, והעיקר בקבלת החלטות לפועל על כל השנה כולה ובטח ימלא בהזדמנות הבאה.
