Greetings and blessing,

I received with pleasure your letter of 24 Kislev*, announcing good news to me — the improvement in the situation of your students, in their studies and especially in their conduct. No doubt, in the future, you will continue to emphasize the importance of action, which is essential, as the Mishnah* establishes.

This is the reason why the study of laws that apply on a daily basis is truly fundamental (see also letter no. 3048). One must find the appropriate means in this matter — knowledge examinations, distribution of prizes — so that your students know these laws; that is, very simply, the blessings one must recite or the passages of prayer during which one may interrupt, for example.

I learned with satisfaction that you have visited several villages (of the Holy Land) and of what resulted from this. No doubt you maintain contact with these people, so that the plowing and sowing carried out during these visits bear their fruit throughout the year. Certainly, a personal meeting and correspondence are in no way comparable. Nevertheless, after a visit, a letter can accomplish much. And furthermore, can we determine what is little and what is much? Moreover, our Sages say: "Do not weigh the Mitzvos* of the Torah*."

You surely took part in the Chassidic* farbrengen* on the luminous day of 19 Kislev* and adopted good resolutions, concretely applicable, in particular that of participating in the completion of the study of the Talmud*.

Hashem will grant you success and merit so that you can put these decisions into practice, with breadth of mind, in good health and in material abundance.

Your father-in-law, the great Rav (Rav Chaim Shimon Zeev Rubin) and Tzaddik*, who comes from an illustrious family and who will have a long life, has no doubt received my letter (this is letter no. 3121).

שלום וברכה!

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ד כסלו, בו מבשר טוב מהשתפרות מצב מושפעיו והלימודים והעיקר בהנוגע למעשה. ובודאי גם על להבא ידגיש גודל המעשה שהוא העיקר, וכפסק המשנה, שלכן נחוץ ביותר וביותר לימוד הלכות הצריכות בחיי היום יומים. וכדאי לחפש עצות מתאימות ע"י בחינות מיוחדות נתינת פרסים וכיו"ב שיהיו המושפעים בקיאים בהם. וכוונתי פשוטה - הלימוד דברכות הנהנין, הפסק בתפלה וכיו"ב.

נהניתי ממ"ש אודות ביקורו באחדים מהישובים והתוצאות שפעל הביקור. ובודאי עומדים בקישור עמהם גם לאח"ז, בכדי שהחרישה והזריעה של ביקורם יתנו פירות במשך כל השנה. ואף שאינו דומה ביקור פא"פ לכתיבה, הנה לאחר הביקור יש גם ע"י כתיבה לפעול גדולות. ובפרט שאין אתנו יודע ברור מהו גדולות מהו קטנות - נוסף על מרז"ל אל תהי יושב ושוקל מצותי' של תורה.

בודאי השתתף בהתועדות דיום הבהיר י"ט כסלו ובקבלת החלטות בהנוגע אל הפועל מהם השתתפות בחלוקת הש"ס, והשי"ת יזכהו ויצליחו להביא החלטות אלו בפועל מתוך הרחבת הדעת בריאות ופרנסה.
