Greetings and blessing,

I have just received the terrible news that one of the best students of our Yeshivah* in Lod has been found murdered (this was Yisrael Aryeh Dabroskin, murdered by Palestinian terrorists while on his way to teach Chassidus* at the vocational school of Kfar Chabad*; see also letters no. 3190, 3194, 3195, 3261, 3262, and 3298), in an orchard near Sfarya (Kfar Chabad*). I am awaiting the transmission of all the details relating to this tragedy.

I hasten to write to you, for I fear the reactions of fright that this horrible drama will arouse, particularly among the women, and that will highlight the economic deficiencies and the shortcomings from which the Kfar* suffers, with all the negative consequences this may have.

Everything must therefore be done to calm people's spirits, and I hope that, to a certain extent, this will be achieved by establishing contact with the relevant administrations. I do not know what form this will take, having no information on this subject. You are on the spot and you will therefore know what should be done.

It seems to me that one of the means to achieve this result is to increase the number of inhabitants of the Kfar*.

I have scruples about recalling all of this once again, at a moment such as this, but in my opinion, if the inhabitants of the Kfar* learn that action has begun in earnest to increase their number, people's spirits will calm down, at least to a certain extent. It goes without saying that I would be very grateful if you could give me good news in this matter.

זה עתה קבלתי הידיעה המבהילה אשר אחד הי"ד מבחירי התלמידים של ישיבתנו בלוד נמצא הרוג בפרדס על יד ספריא, והנני מחכה לקבל פרטי האסון ר"ל. ומה שהמריצני לכתוב לכ' מיד הוא שהנני חושש לרושם המבהיל שיעשה האסון הנורא הזה, ובפרט על הנשים, ויבליט ביותר מגרעות הכלכליים והדחקות וכו' של הכפר, אשר עלול להביא לידי תוצאות שליליות וכו'. ומן הצורך לעשות כל האפשר בכדי להרגיע הרוחות, ומקווני אשר במדה ידועה אפשר הי' לפעול זה על ידי התקרבות מיוחדת מהמשרדים המתאימים, הגם שאינני יודע באיזה אופן תתבטא, מאחר שאין לי כל הידיעות בזה, וכ' הנמצא על אתר בטח ידע כיצד לכלכל דבר.

מה שנראה לי מהאמצעים לכיוון זה הוא הגדלת מספר המתיישבים בכפר.

...והנני חש להדגיש הענין עוה"פ בעת הזאת, כי לדעתי אם יקבלו בני הכפר ידיעה שהתחילו בפעולה נמרצה להגדיל מספר המתיישבים, יהי' בזה כדי להביא מרגוע, עכ"פ במקצת, ברוחות הסוערות. ולמותר להוסיף כי אכיר לכ' תודה רבה אם יודיעני בשורות טובות בזה.
