Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of 27 Kislev*. You tell me that you are sixteen years old, that you study Torah* and that you wish to continue this study. Nevertheless, your father is considering settling in another country, which will have the effect of interrupting or weakening your studies, for you will have to help him earn a livelihood.

It must be explained to your father that Hashem feeds everyone and provides for all needs, as we observe in the blessing recited after the meal, which is instituted by the Torah*. One must therefore strive to fulfill His will. It is in this way that one can receive an increased blessing for earning a livelihood.

One of the means of eliciting blessing is to study our holy Torah*, the Torah* of life. Consequently, the more ardor you bring to your study, the more your father and the members of your family will know abundance. It is therefore, quite on the contrary, your father who must help you!

For your part, you will therefore do everything in your power to study the revealed dimension of the Torah* and Chassidus*. May Hashem grant that there be fulfilled in you the promise that "one who makes efforts sees them crowned with success."

Your father earns his livelihood in the place where he currently resides. I therefore do not understand why he wants to settle elsewhere.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ז כסלו, בו כותב שהוא בגיל ששה עשר ולומד תורה ונפשו חשקה להמשיך בזה, אלא שאביו שי' יש אצלו סברא שיעתיק למדינה אחרת, שבמילא יפסיק או עכ"פ יחליש הוא את לימודו ותחת זה יעזור לאביו בפרנסה.

הנה צריך הי' להסביר לאביו שי' שהשי"ת הוא הזן ומפרנס לכל, וכמו שאומרים בברכת המזון שהיא מן התורה, ובמילא צריך לעשות כל השתדלות למלאות רצונו ית' שעל ידי זה תהי' תוספת ברכה בהפרנסה. ואחת ההשתדלות בזה היא העסק בתורתנו הק' תורת חיים, ולכן ככל שיוסיף בשקידה בלימוד התורה יוסיף השי"ת בפרנסה לאביו ובני ביתו שיחיו, ולכן אדרבה על אביו לסייעו בזה. והוא מצדו יעשה בזה ככל יכולתו הן בלימוד תורת הנגלה והן בלימוד החסידות, ויה"ר שיקוים בו פסק רז"ל יגעת ומצאת.

כיון שלאביו שי' יש פרנסה במקום שהוא נמצא עתה אינני מבין מפני מה רוצה להעתיק.
