Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of 15 Teves* and I am surprised to note that you say nothing about your participation in the Chassidic* farbrengen* on the luminous day of 19 Kislev*, date of our deliverance and the liberation of our souls. No doubt you participated and took, on this Rosh Hashanah* of Chassidus*, good resolutions that will apply throughout the year.

Regarding the names of those who have just been born (the recipient of this letter presumably had twins and asked the Rebbe what to name them), at a good and fruitful time, you know the practice (see letter no. 2752) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us. He indeed gave no instructions on this subject. His position was based on the writings of the Arizal*, Shaar HaGilgulim*, twenty-third introduction, Emek HaMelech*, first gate, end of chapter 4.

These works explain that the name is the channel attracting the soul here below. Hashem therefore suggests to the parents the one they should give. Thus, the decision you make, together with your wife, will be the right one. May Hashem grant that it be for long days and good years.

במענה על מכתבו מט"ו טבת. ולפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר ע"ד השתתפותו בהתועדות דיום הבהיר הוא י"ט כסלו יום גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו, שבודאי השתתף בזה וגם בההחלטות הטובות בהנוגע לפועל מר"ה לחסידות על כל השנה.

בנוגע לקריאת שם הנולדים בשעה טובה ומוצלחת, ידועה הנהגת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע שלא הי' מורה בכגון דא (ומובן ע"פ המבואר בכתבי האריז"ל - שער הגלגולים הקדמה כ"ג, עמק המלך שער א' סוף פרק ד' - אשר השם הוא צנור המשכה לנשמה זו דוקא ונותנים מלמעלה הרעיון בזה להורי הנולד), ואיך שיחליטו הוא וזוגתו שיחיו ביחד, יה"ר שיהי' לאורך ימים ושנים טובות.
