To the directors and administrators of the Yeshivah* Achei Temimim* Lubavitch of Springfield, Massachusetts, and at their head, the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav* David HaLevi Edelman (see note 1),
Greetings and blessings,
I received with pleasure your letter informing me that on the approaching Rosh Chodesh* Shevat*, which comes upon us and upon all of Yisrael* for good, the annual celebration of the Yeshivah* Achei Temimim* Lubavitch of Springfield, Massachusetts will take place.
I hope that the Jews of Springfield who cherish the Torah* appreciate at its true worth the sacred mission fulfilled by the Yeshivah*, that they will participate in this celebration in the fitting manner, both physically and financially. They will also show generosity toward others and convince their friends and acquaintances to take part as well in maintaining and developing this holy institution.
If, at all times, education has been the pillar of the perpetuity of Yisrael*, which our Sages* describe as a "heavenly mission," how much more so in our generation and in our era. The youth must not only acquire knowledge of the Torah*, but also discover the foundations of Judaism, and adopt a daily conduct that conforms to the spirit of the Torah*. An institution providing education based on sacred values is then of cardinal importance, for upon it depends the revelation of the soul — the souls of an entire community within which this institution fulfills its mission.
Our Sages* give the assurance that "the heart of Yisrael* is awake for the Holy One, blessed be He, and for His Torah*," even during the period of exile*. I hope that effective assistance will result from this (annual celebration), so that this institution may pursue its sacred mission on a wider scale, quantitatively and qualitatively, as the present era demands.
May this merit (of contributing to the development of the Yeshivah*) protect all those who bring their participation to this endeavor, and bring them the satisfaction of all their needs, material and spiritual.
