4 Shevat* 5715,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letters, in which you formulate proposals for action for the youth of the Chabad* association in particular, and for all that concerns Chabad* in general. It is clear that to conduct such action, one must be motivated. Certainly, as with everything pertaining to the Torah* and the Mitzvos*, submission is necessary at first, but this is merely a beginning, an introduction. Subsequently, the pleasure must actually be felt.

The same applies to the proposals formulated in your letter, which are judicious. These must be introduced at the initiative of those who will have to put them into practice. If this is the case, I have good hope that it will not even be necessary to resort to submission, in accordance with the affirmation of our Sages* that "a person prefers one measure of his own over nine measures belonging to his friend."

I do not know whether this letter will reach you before the day of the Hilulah*. Nevertheless, the motivation one generates at a propitious moment must subsequently extend throughout the entire year and ultimately strengthen all these accomplishments. It is certain that you will know success.

As you write in your letter, you are grateful and you praise Hashem* Who, in your words, "has shown great and wondrous kindness in drawing us close to Chassidus*." You will therefore do everything in your power so that the same may be true for those in your company. Indeed, an act of Tzedakah* involves showing benevolence toward others, all the more so since it is stated on this matter that "Hashem* illuminates the eyes of both."

I was particularly pleased to learn that you recite Chassidic* discourses in the house of study, even though an obstacle still stands in this domain. I have good hope that through calm words, it will disappear. In the end, an effort is never in vain.

You have surely seen a copy of my letter addressed to all the women and girls of Chabad*. No doubt you will make use of it in the fitting manner.

Awaiting good news of all that has been said, and with my blessing for having the proper motivation on the day of the Hilulah* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, and for retaining it subsequently, throughout the entire year,

ג'רנא
