B"H,

14 Shevat 5715,
Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

The great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, filled with fervor, of manifold accomplishments, Rav A. Hecht, informed me of your state of health and asked me for a blessing. On the day of his Hilulah*, I was at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, leader of Israel, whose merit protects us. At that time, his soul ascends to an even higher level. Now, the elevation of a faithful shepherd, who does not abandon his flock, infuses increased blessing and success to enable its revelation here below — particularly for the requests that are made on the day of his Hilulah*.

Various texts illustrate this idea with the following image: one who is in a moment of joy cannot bear the sight of someone who is suffering. It is in this manner that one sweetens the suffering and transforms Tzarah* (distress) into Tzohar* (a window that illuminates), and Nega* (affliction) into Oneg* (delight) — the second term being, in each case, an anagram of the first.

Subsequently, Rav Hecht informed me that you were feeling better, and I am pleased.

May Hashem grant that "the length shall arise," to paraphrase the Parshah* of this week. It is explained, indeed, that the initial letters of the verse "I am Hashem Who heals you" form the word Arich* (the superficial aspect of Keser* that transcends the chain of worlds — the source of healing; additionally, Arich means "long"), for "all healings are of celestial origin," as explained in the Zohar*, Volume 3, page 292b; the Me'orei Or, entry "Arich*"; the Kehillas Yaakov, entry "length." See also the Zohar*, Volume 3, pages 204a and 304b, and the Zohar Chadash*, Parshas Balak, page 54c.

With my blessing that you give good tidings of all this,

ג'ער
