To my close relative, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,
of an illustrious family, Rav Shmuel Abba (Rav S. A. Shapiro; see Letter #2966),

I greet you and bless you,

I received with pleasure your letter, which followed a long silence — all the more so as I was concerned about your state of health. I thank you for informing me that you are feeling better. May Hashem grant that in the future, you announce good tidings to me always and every day.

I read with interest the article about the heritage of the Sefer Torah* (see Letter #2966; this article is published in the book Yechidei Segulah, page 272) that was enclosed with your letter. You know how much my father-in-law, the Rebbe, was interested in testimonies from past eras, which very often motivate and invigorate in daily life.

No doubt you have still other recollections, particularly of the illustrious lineage (literally, "the golden chain") of the Tzaddik*, Rabbi Pinchas of Koretz, up to the brothers of Slavita (who wrote this Sefer Torah*). It would be good to publish these as well. For who, more than our bewildered generation, needs to see the good example of the self-sacrifice one can demonstrate for all the sacred values of the people of Israel, which are the foundation of our existence?

I enclose what was published for the Hilulah*, with addenda. It will surely interest you.

לאחרי שתיקתו הארוכה נעם לי לקבל מכתבו, ובפרט שדאגתי גם למצב בריאותו.

ות"ח על בשורתו הטובה שכבר הוטבה, ויה"ר דמכאן ולהבא יבשר אך טוב תכה"י.

בהתענינות קראתי את המאמר ס"ת של ירושה שצירף למכתבו. ובודאי ידוע לו עד כמה התענין כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע ברשימת זכרונות ימים שעברו, אשר לפעמים תכופות מעוררים ומחיים - באלעבען - בהנוגע גם לחיי היום יומים, ובטח נמצאים עם כבודו רשימות עוד זכרונות, ובפרט בהנוגע להאי שושילתא דדהבא מהרה"צ ר"פ מקאריץ ועד האחים דסלאוויטא. ומה טוב אם גם הם היו מוצאים לאור, ומי כדורנו נבוך זה - הנזקק לדוגמא מתאימה למסירת נפש לכל הקדוש לישראל סבא יסוד ועיקר קיומנו.

מוסג"פ שהו"ל בקשר עם היום - ההילולא - עם הוספות - שבטח יענין את כבודו.
