I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 15 Shevat, in which you tell me that you feel no connection to your studies, because you are troubled by your thoughts.

As you know, every Jew possesses a letter of the Torah, through which he receives everything that concerns him. It is therefore inconceivable that you have no connection with the Torah, which is a Torah of life. Nevertheless, the yetzer hara* — the "old and foolish king" — veils and conceals the truth.

Our Sages provide the solution to such a situation: "If you encounter this scoundrel, lead him to the house of study." You must invest your efforts in study with ardor and constancy. In this way, Hashem will grant you success.

Moreover, your study will be pure, for it will be preceded by fervent prayer, ritual immersion*, and study of the soul of the Torah — its inner dimension, which is the teaching of Chassidus*.

במענה על מכתבו מט"ו שבט, בו כותב שאין לו קישור ללימודו כי המחשבות מבלבלות אותו.

הנה ידוע אשר לכל אחד מישראל יש לו אות בתורה וכל עניני בן בת ישראל נמשכים על ידי התורה, שלכן אי אפשר שלא יהי' לו קישור לתורה תורת חיים אלא שהיצר הרע מלך זקן וכסיל מעלים ומסתיר על האמת, והעצה היא לזה מה שארז"ל אם פגע בך מנוול זה משכהו לבית המדרש, וכשיתייגע בלימודו בהתמדה ושקידה יצליחו השי"ת ובטח יהי' לימודו בטהרה ע"י עבודת התפלה ומקוה טהרה ולימוד נשמתא דאורייתא פנימיות התורה תורת החסידות.
