Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of the 11th of Shevat*, which was sent by regular mail and has only now reached me. You speak of the end of the sufferings of exile*, the coming of our righteous Moshiach*, and the vision you had of this.

This question is very ancient. The holy Baal Shem Tov* informed us that he himself posed this question when his soul experienced an elevation on Rosh Hashanah*. He asked our righteous Moshiach in person: "When will you come?" This was the reply he received: "You will be able to determine it in the following manner: when your teaching will be known, when it will be revealed in the world, and when your wellsprings will spread outward."

Yet we have not even merited the beginning of the redemption*. Consequently, whoever desires to hasten it must strive with all his energy and by every means at his disposal — or even beyond those means — to spread the wellsprings of the Baal Shem Tov, namely the teaching of Chassidus*, its practices and customs, among those around him, near and far.

The Baal Shem Tov specified that these wellsprings must be found "on the outside," and every action in this direction hastens the redemption in a concrete way. There is therefore no need to seek new methods. May Hashem grant that you carry out your mission in this matter with the appropriate energy.

You surely know the three study sessions instituted for everyone by my father-in-law, the Rebbe. They consist of: Tehillim*, according to their monthly division, each morning after the Shacharis* prayer; the Chumash* with Rashi's* commentary on the weekly Sidrah* — Sunday from its beginning to Sheini*, Monday from Sheini to Shelishi*, and so forth; and the Tanya*, each day as well, according to its annual division. You have surely adopted these study sessions, or at the very least you will do so in the future. May Hashem grant you success.

במענה על מכתבו מי"א שבט, שהלך בדואר הרגיל ונתקבל זה עתה - בו כותב אודות השאלה מתי קץ הפלאות ביאת משיח צדקנו, ואשר הי' לו חזון בזה.

הנה השאלה היא שאלה נושנה, והודיע לנו הבעל שם טוב הקדוש אשר שאלה בעת עליית נשמתו בראש השנה, ושאלה את משיח צדקנו עצמו, אימתי אתי מר, והשיב בזאת תדע בעת שיתפרסם לימודך ויתגלה בעולם ויפוצו מעיינותיך חוצה, ולכן כל הרוצה לקרב קץ הגאולה אשר בעוה"ר עדיין לא זכינו אפילו לאתחלתא שלה, עליו להשתדל בכל מרצו ויכולתו ועוד יותר מזה להפצת מעיינות הבעש"ט היא תורת החסידות הדרכותי' ומנהגי' בסביבתו הקרובה וגם בסביבתו הרחוקה, וכדיוק מענה משיח צדקנו, חוצה, וכל פעולה ופעולה מקרבת קץ הגאולה בפועל, ואין צורך לחפש דרכים חדשים, והשי"ת יצליחו אשר ימלא ככל המוטל עליו בזה במרץ המתאים.

בודאי ידועים לו שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, והם א) אמירת שיעור תהלים - כפי שנחלק התהלים לימי החדש - בכל יום אחר תפלת שחרית. ב) לימוד פרשה חומש עם פירוש רש"י מהסדרה של השבוע. - ביום א' מהתחלת הסדרה עד שני, ביום ב' מפרשת שני עד שלישי וכו' - ג) לימוד שיעור תניא בכל יום, כפי שנחלק התניא לימות השנה, ושומר אותם, ועכ"פ ישמור אותם מכאן ולהבא והשי"ת יצליחו.
