To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Pesach Ephraim (the Rav P. E. Riber), the Shochet*,
Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of the 8th of Adar, and I am surprised that you say nothing about the day of the Hilulah* (of the Frierdiker Rebbe*) on the 10th of Shevat*. Surely, on that day, you intensified your study of Torah* and especially of Chassidus*, your prayer, and your Tzedakah*. You will not fail to make up for any deficiency at the next opportunity.
You mention what you should do regarding the second day of Yom Tov* observed outside of Eretz Yisrael* (Rav Riber, residing in the Holy Land, had traveled to Djibouti to perform Shechitah*, while his family members remained in Eretz Yisrael; see also letter no. 973 on the same subject). You must put into practice what is stated in the Shulchan Aruch*. What is explained in the Shaar HaKollel* (at the beginning of that work) pertains only to a public action and demonstrates the need to act discreetly (so as not to give the appearance of publicly transgressing the festival).
