To the directors of Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, in Lod*, may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

Following the letter of the Rebbe Shlita (this letter was written by the secretary under the Rebbe's dictation), which you have surely already received, you will find below the details of several points raised in your previous letters, to which you will no doubt provide a response in your upcoming correspondence.

A) You mention in your letter the study of the laws of shechitah* and Yoreh De'ah*. You are presumably referring also to the profession of shechitah* and to the study of Yoreh De'ah* in general.

Overall, this is a good initiative, especially for the Sefardic* students. Obviously, it will be necessary to take into account the points on which their practice diverges from that of the Ashkenazi* shochtim*.

However, the name and the nature of the Yeshivah* must not be devalued as a result. The study of Torah* must retain its depth. You must understand what I mean.

B) You speak of your negotiations to obtain a subsidy from the Yeshivos* committee. In fact, it is truly incomprehensible that you were granted such a negligible amount, especially since Rav Sheer came here. In his discussions, he said and repeated that he viewed the Yeshivos* Tomchei Temimim* in a positive and favorable manner. Now, he is very influential within that committee.

C) A letter from the Kfar (Kfar Chabad*) informs me that a plot of land has been allocated that will suffice to build the vocational school. You will surely also tell me what has been done concretely in this regard.

D) It would be necessary to determine why the Ministry of Labor has not given its approval for the vocational school. There is surely a way to change this decision by introducing some improvements in the school. Obviously, this must in no way come at the expense of sacred studies.

E) For the time being, I have not yet received the files of the students of the vocational school and their photographs.

F) You ask me whether a fine (see letter no. 3385) should be instituted for students who are not diligent. In this matter, you must take into account the prevailing custom in the country where you are located.

G) Regarding the buildings in Tiberias* (see letters no. 3472 and 3556), it is possible to establish a vocational school there. It appears that the students will be Sefardim* and it is therefore necessary, first of all, to verify whether a suitable person can assume the directorship. Indeed, while the teachers may not necessarily be Chassidim*, there is no reason to relinquish the directorship.

Obviously, the same will apply and the same verification will be necessary — or perhaps it will need to be even more scrupulous — if a branch of Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* is founded there.

בהמשך למכתב כ"ק אדמו"ר שליט"א שבטח כבר נתקבל, הנה נפרטים לקמן איזה נקודות בקשר עם מכתביהם הקודמים, שבטח יענו גם עלהים במכתבם הבא, והם:

א) מזכירים במכתבם אודות לימוד הלכות שו"ב ויו"ד, ובטח הכוונה ג"כ לאומנות השו"ב לאחר כך ולימוד היורה דעה בכלל. ומובן אשר, בכלל, נכון הדבר ובפרט בשביל התלמידם הספרים (ומובן שיש להביא בחשבון הדינים שבהם מחולקים מהשו"ב האשכנזים), אבל ביחד עם זה יש להנהיג באופן שלא יומעט עי"ז שם הישיבה ומהותה בלימוד התורה בעמקות, וד"ל.

ב) מזכירים שמנהלים שקו"ט אודות התקציב מועד הישיבות, שבאמת אינו מובן כלל הסכום הקטנטן הניתן להם. ובפרט לאחרי שביקר כאן הרב שער שי', ואמר וכפל בשיחותיו שיחסו טוב והגון לישיבות תו"ת וכו', ולו דעה גדולה בעניני הועד הנ"ל.

ג) מהכפר נתקבל מכתב שקצבו שטח אדמה מספיק להבי"ס למלאכה.

ובטח יודיעו ג"כ הם הבפועל בזה.

ד) מהנכון הי' לברר סיבת העדר אשור בי"ס למלאכה ע"י משרד העבודה. ובטח יש אופנים לשנות החלטתם ע"י איזה שיפורים בבי"ס למלאכה. מוכן שכלל וכלל לא ע"ח לימודי קדש.

ה) לעת עתה, לא נתקבלו גליוני תלמידי בי"ס למלאכה ותמונותיהם.

ו) בשאלתם אודות להנהיג קנסות לתלמידים בעד העדר התמדה וכיו"ב, הנה בענינים כמו אלו, יש להתחשב עם הנוהג במדינה בה נמצאים.

ז) בהנוגע לההצעה אודות הבנינים בטבריא, הרי יש מקום ליסוד שם בי"ס למלאכה, כיון שכנרא - התלמידים יהיו מבין הספרדים, ולכן צריך לברר לכל לראש היש פערסאנאל מתאים לעמוד בראשות הנהלה שם (אם המורים יהיו שלא מאנ"ש, משא"כ בראשות הנהלה שאין לוותר על זה). מובן שה"ה והבירור באם תהי' אפשריות לייסד שם סניף ישיבת תומכי תמימים, ואפשר עוד בתוקף יותר.
