To the Rav, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Nachum Shmaryahu (Rav N. S. Sosonkin, of Yerushalayim*; see letter no. 2759),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter from the beginning of the month of Iyar*, as well as the one that preceded it.

I thank you for conveying the good news of the Chassidic* farbrengen* and especially of the inspiration that the participants drew from it in the days that followed. Subsequently, those who have the ability are surely ensuring that this enthusiasm receives concrete application, including during the weekdays.

You say that those who reside in the west (in Eretz Yisrael*) have never seen the Rebbe*, for my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, passed through there only briefly, for one week (in the summer of 5689/1929). But ultimately, this visit will have a profound effect.

One of the means of achieving such a result in a revealed manner is to draw down an even more intense light. If this is an initiative of men, it consists of increased effort so that the introduction of this light is much more profound.

Now, these two points depend on the elder Chassidim* of Yerushalayim*, who must repeat before them discourses of Chassidus*. For the teaching of a Rebbe* reflects his deepest essence. And one must therefore guide them toward his practices, in the manner he indicated to us, in daily life.

הנה ת"ח על הבשו"ט של ההתועדות, והעיקר בהתעוררות של המתועדים בהנוגע לימים שאחרי ימי התועדות, ובטח גם לאחר זה הנה משגיחים כל אלו שהיכולת בידם על זה שתבוא ההתעוררות בפועל גם בימות החול.

ומ"ש שבני מערבא לא ראו רבי מימיהם, וגם השבוע ששהה כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הי' זה בדרך מקיף. הרי מקיף סו"ס נכנס בפנימיות, ואחד הדברים בזה (בדרך מלמעלמ"ט הוא) ע"י שמשמיכים מקיף יותר נעלה, או בדרך (מלמטלמ"ע) כשמשתדלים להמשיך המקיף בפנימיות ע"י עבודה, והרי שני הדברים ביד זקני אנ"ש שבירושת"ו הוא, ע"י שיחזרו לפניהם מאמרי דא"ח שתורתו של הרבי ה"ז פנימיותו ועצמותו, וע"י שידריכום בהנהגותיו בדרך אשר הורה לנו בחיי היום יומי...
