To the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Moshe* (Rav M. Levertov),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the eve of Shabbos*. I took note, with pleasure, of the organization of studies and especially of the fact that the students are progressing in the fear of Hashem. May Hashem grant that everything concerning this study also serve as an indication for the future.

You prevented a student from writing here immediately — that is, to the Rebbe, to complain about his limited progress — and you did well, for it should not be so. Someone receives advice but does not immediately observe the wonders and evident miracles that result from it. He is therefore unaware of the statement of our Sages*: "If someone tells you that he did not make effort but nevertheless succeeded — do not believe him." Certainly, it is easier to write a letter than to make an effort.

Obviously, this does not concern him personally but applies equally to all the other students. Indeed, following the previously cited statement, the Sages* also say: "If someone tells you that he made efforts but they were not crowned with success — do not believe him."

On the occasion of Shavuos*, which is approaching, may Hashem grant, in the formulation of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, that you receive the Torah* with joy and in a profound manner. And you will be able to announce to me good news concerning all that has been said.

במענה על מכתבו מעש"ק, נהניתי לקרות בו מסדרי הלימודים, והעיקר מהתקדמות התלמידים ביראת שמים, ויה"ר שיהיו דברי ועניני הלימוד - הוראה על כל הזמן הבא.

טוב עשה מה שעכב את הת'... שי' לכתוב לכאן תומ"י, כי אין זה דרך שמי שהוא מקבל עצה ואינו רואה נפלאות ומופתים גלוים על אתר - לא ידע ממרז"ל לא יגעת ומצאת אל תאמין, והרי כתיבת מכתבים הוא דבר קל יותר, ומובן שכל זה הוא לא רק בהנוגע להנ"ל אלא גם לשאר התלמידים, והרי בהמשך למרז"ל לא יגעת ומצאת אל תאמין וא גם מרז"ל יגעת ולא מצאת אל תאמין.

ולחג השבועות הבע"ל, הנה יזכה כלשון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, לקבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות, ויוכל לבשר טוב בכל האמור לעיל.
