Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of 9 Iyar*, which I received with some delay. You describe your numerous activities and your difficulty concentrating, which also affects your study of the revealed dimension of Torah* and Chassidus*, as well as the fervor of your prayer.
Good advice in this matter is the following: "Acquire for yourself a friend." Already now, you surely discuss all these subjects from time to time with the elder Chassidim*. But in addition, you should also have a true friend to whom you can reveal the faults you carry in your heart.
Our Sages* say that "one who has a worry in his heart should speak of it" (see letter no. 3394), and the Mitteler Rebbe* explains that in this way, two divine souls struggle against a single animal soul — the animal soul of the friend, however, does not intervene. One can verify concretely the benefit of such an approach.
You also speak to me about the manner in which you put on Tefillin* and what you saw in the responsa of the Tzemach Tzedek*. You ask me whether you should repeat the blessing when you put them on your second arm after the prayer — this presumably concerns someone who cannot determine whether he is right-handed or left-handed. There is no reason to do so, for when in doubt, one refrains from reciting a blessing.
In fact, the question would arise only if it were formulated in the opposite direction: Should one say the blessing when placing the Tefillin* on the first arm, given that there is a doubt? Nevertheless, you surely think, when saying this blessing, of the second arm on which you will place the Tefillin* afterward.
Concretely, how should you put on the Tefillin*? All the necessary details do not appear in your letter, and you should therefore submit this question to Rabbanim* who rule on Halachah* concretely and who fear Hashem. They will tell you what should be done.
The last point, which arouses the most interest: you tell me that you have just become engaged. May Hashem grant you a Mazal Tov*! It will be at a good and fruitful time. You will build an everlasting edifice, based on Torah* and mitzvos*, as they are illuminated by the luminary of Torah*, which is the teaching of Chassidus*.
With my blessing to receive the Torah* with joy and in a profound manner.
P.S.: You tell me that the wedding has been set for Iyar* 5716 — that is, a year later (see letters no. 2973 and 3560). I am surprised that the interval is so long. No doubt the two families will agree to advance the date, at a good and fruitful time.
