To our friend, remarkable young man, Rav Menachem Zeev Gringlass, Montreal,

I greet you and bless you,

1. Your letters of the 16th, 19th, and 21st of Marcheshvan, with what was enclosed — the words of the Rebbe delivered on the occasion of Shabbos Bereishis*, the letter of Mr. Mendelsohn, and the postcard from the eve of Shabbos Toldos* — have reached me. For various reasons, I was unable to respond until now. I will do so proceeding in order.

2. You are surely taking care to collect testimonies [1], as you promised and with eagerness. Do not do this only in your spare time, for you risk being a victim of forgetfulness.

3. You have no doubt long since received the letters with the letterhead of the Sefer Torah* committee. I am surprised that you have not confirmed this receipt. You will make an effort to deliver them to those who can devote themselves to this. It is of course unnecessary to emphasize its importance to you. You have presumably received the receipts for the twenty-five shekels [2] that you sent, by bank transfer, for the Sefer Torah.

4. All the other publications that you requested have been sent to you, with the exception of the Conversations with the Youth from previous months, which are all sold out. It is therefore good that in the future you let us know in advance the number of copies you think you will need. The first edition of the calendar is also sold out and the second is in press. When it is completed, you will receive the one hundred copies that you requested.

5. The editing of your Chassidus commentaries is delayed by the heavy workload that we have here. As soon as it is completed, it will be sent to you.

6. A letter and some specimens of the publications of the Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch have been sent to the union of Talmud Torahs* and to Adas Yisrael*, as you requested. The letter was dispatched on the 8th of Kislev.

7. Your request has been forwarded to the periodical HaKriah VeHaKedushah.

8. Concerning the words of the Rebbe, delivered during Shabbos Bereishis, the word [3] "Getzugter" designates one who is well-groomed and attaches great importance to his attire. The word "Gefechteter" means spoiled.

9. The words delivered by the Rebbe on Simchas Torah* have not yet been edited, with the exception of the excerpt that appeared in HaKriah VeHaKedushah. Those of Shemini Atzeres* have not been reviewed by the Rebbe. If you are not aware of them, let me know. I will send you my personal copy, on condition that you return it to me.

10. Mr. Arlin transmitted ten shekels [2] from you to me, which have been deducted from what you owed for the publications. On the other hand, the "good Jew," to use your expression, transmitted nothing to me at all.

11. I sent you, through the intermediary of this "good Jew," what was printed in Warsaw, and it has no doubt reached you. You have surely also received a Tanya and Chassidic discourses from Warsaw, which must have been transmitted to you by Mr. Arlin. We have unsold Tanyas that are missing pages 129 to 136. Only a few copies of complete Tanyas remain and they cost fifty cents. The bound edition is sold to students for seventy-five cents. A collection of the Likkutei Torah* costs four American shekels [2].

12. I thank you for the information you transmitted to me regarding Winnipeg. We have heard of a Rav from that city, who is called Khanovitch. Do you know who he is?

13. You will find enclosed a questionnaire that is sent each month to the members of Machane Yisrael. If you transmit to us the addresses of the members residing in your city, we will send it to them as well. The responses to this questionnaire are transmitted to my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, president of Machane Yisrael.

14. I also enclose copies of two responses sent to several members of Machane Yisrael, who were questioning these questionnaires.

15. You will also send us an account of what is being organized, in the area of Mesibos Shabbos and the establishment of Beth Rivkah, as you say in your letter.

א. מכתביו מיום ט"ז י"ט כ"א מ"ח עם המוסג"ב שיחת ש"פ בראשית ומכתב מר מנדלסון והגלוי' מעש"ק תולדות נכון הגיעו. ומכמה סיבות נתאחרה התשובה ע"ע. ובא המענה ועל ראשון כו' בזה.

ב. בודאי מתעסקים בענין רשימת הזכרונות כהבטחתם, בזירוז. ואל תאמר כשאפנה כו'. ובפרט במקום אשר השכחה מצוי'.

ג. הבלאנקען מהס"ת בטח קבל זה מכבר, ולפלא שאינו מאשר קבלתם. ובודאי משתדלים להמציאם לאנשים השייכים לענין זה. והאריכות בגודל ענין זה אך למותר.

בודאי הגיעו הקבלות על כ"ה שקל ששלח להס"ת ע"י הבאנק.

ד. נשלח לו שאר עניני הדפוס שבקש, לבד אלו מהשמועסן מחודשים שעברו, שכבר נמכרו כולם - ולכן טוב שלהבא יודיע מקודם השערתו כמה יוצרך לו. - והלוח, שתוצאה הא' כבר אפסה, ונדפסת עתה הוצאה ב', ובהו"ל יושלח לו עוד המאה שבקש.

ה. עריכת הדא"ח שלו מתעכב מפני רבוי העבודה פה. וכשירחיב יושלח לו.

ו. מכ' ודוגמאות מהיו"ל ע"י מל"ח נשלח לת"ת המאוחדים וגם לעדת ישראל כהוראתו. (המכ' נשלח ח' כסלו).

ז. בקשתו להקוה"ק נמסרה.

ח. המובא בשיחת ש"פ בראשית: "געצואגטער" היינו שחפץ ראשו. ותוכנו: המסלסל בשערו, מקפיד על סדור ויופי בגדיו וכה"ג. "געפעעשטעטער" - פי' מפונק.

ט. שיחת שמח"ת עדיין לא נסדרה (מלבד הקטע שבהקוה"ק). דשמע"צ, ישנה רק אי-מוגהת . ואם אינה עדיין אצלם יודיעני, ואשלח העקז' שלי ע"מ להחזיר .

י. מר ארלין מסר עשרה ש' בשמו. ונרשם ע"ח המגיע בעד עניני דפוס. ע"י ה"גוטער איד" כלשונו לא נתקבל מאומה.

יא. נשלח ע"י ה"גוטער איד" גם מהנדפס בורשא. ובטח הגיעם. ובודאי קבלו גם הנשלח ע"י מר ארלין תניא אחד ומאמרי ורשא. ישנם "תניא" אי-מכורכים וחסרים שם עמוד קכט-קלו. תניא שלמים נשארו רק עקז' מתי מספר והמחיר נ' סענט, המכורכים מחיר - לתלמידים - ע"ה סענט. סעט לקו"ת מחירו ד' שקל (דכאן).

יב. תודה על הידיעות בעיר ויניפעג. שמענו אודות רב שם ושמו כאנאוויטש. הידוע להם מהותו.

יג. מוסג"פ מכתב חוזר הנשלח לכל חברי המחנה מדי חדש בחדשו, ואם יודיענו כתובת חברים במח' היינו שולחים גם להם. המענות על מכ' זה באים לפני כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א נשיא המחנה.

יד. מוסג"פ העתק ב' מכתבי מענה לאחדים מחברי המחנה, על שאלותיהם ביחס לחוזר הנ"ל.

טו. בודאי יודיע ע"ד עבודתם בענין מסבות שבת וסידור בית רבקה, כמ"ש במכתבו.
