With the help of Hashem

To the participants of the 33rd national convention of the Pirchei Agudas Yisrael* youth organization in America, may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your notification that your national convention will take place from the 15th through the 18th of Elul.

May Hashem grant that this convention be a gathering filled with fear of Hashem, wisdom, and intense action. It will have positive and concrete consequences. It will allow the strengthening of authentic Yiddishkeit* and its dissemination in daily life, in all the places where you exert your influence.

The awareness of the dreadful deficiency in the domain of the actions necessary to improve the religious life of the young generation will surely lead you to adopt the required conclusion. Divine Providence has entrusted each one of you with a sacred and particularly important mission — to improve this situation with all your strength and even beyond it.

Obviously, Divine Providence, in transmitting to each of you this obligation and this merit, has also given you the necessary strength to fully assume your mission. Our Sages* say, indeed, that Hashem asks only in proportion to the strength He grants.

The ardor of the young is suited to all of this, since they are full of energy and fervor. But they must fully place these qualities in the service of the battles of Hashem, in order to strengthen Yiddishkeit by refusing compromise and, all the more so, the association of any other cause with the Name of Hashem, with the Torah* and the mitzvos*. Indeed, "the Torah and the Holy One, blessed be He, are one."

The conclusion and the culmination of your convention will be the 18th of Elul — the date of the birth of the Baal Shem Tov* and of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*. Both of them paved for us a path of love of Hashem, love of the Torah, and love of one's fellow. They showed that these three values form one single entity. They illuminated the hearts of Israel for many generations.

May Hashem grant that this auspicious day bring blessing and success to this convention, in which good decisions will be taken and followed by action.

שלום רב וברכה!

במענה על הודעתם ע"ד הועידה הארצית שתתקיים בימים ט"ו-ח"י אלול.

יהי רצון שתהי' הועידה ועד של יראת שמים חכמה ומעשה גדול, אשר יביא כינוסם תוצאות טובות בפועל ממש בהחזקת היהדות האמתית והפצתה בחיי היום-יום בכל המקומות אשר השפעתם מגעת.

ההכרה בהעזובה המבהילה בשטח הפעולה לשיפור חיים הדתיים של הדור הצעיר בטח תביא אותם לידי הכרת המסקנא מזה, אשר ההשגחה העליונה הטילה על כל אחד ואחד מהם התפקיד הקדוש והכי אחראי להשתדל בכל כוחותיו ויותר לשפר מצב זה.

ומובן אשר ביחד עם החובה והזכות שההשגחה מעמיסה על כל אחד ואחד ניתנים ג"כ הכוחות שיוכל למלאות תפקידו במילואו, וכמרז"ל אינו מבקש אלא לפי כחן. וכוח צעירים יפה הוא כיון שמלאים מרץ והתלהבות, ובלבד שינצלו אותו במילואו במלחמות הוי' לחיזוק בדק היהדות על ידי שלילת הפשרה ועל אחת כמה וכמה שלילת השיתוף של איזה ענין שיהי' עם שם שמים התורה והמצוה, אשר אורייתא וקוב"ה כולא חד.

וגמר וכותרת כינוסם אשר ביום הבהיר דח"י אלול הוא, יום הולדת את הבעל שם טוב ויום הולדת את רבנו הזקן (בעל התניא והשו"ע), אשר הורונו דרך סלולה באהבת השם אהבת התורה ואהבת ישראל ואיך שכולי חד הם, והאירו לבותם ועיניהם של ישראל לדורי דורות, הנה יהי רצון אשר יגרום היום ויביא ברכה והצלחה בכינוס זה להחליט ולהביא ההחלטות הטובות בפועל.

בכבוד ובברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה.
