Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter from this Wednesday, in which you formulate several detailed proposals regarding the place where you will settle after your marriage, which will be celebrated at a good and auspicious time. You solicit my opinion on this matter.
In my view, one must first consider settling in Kfar Chabad*. Indeed, I have good hope that this place is at the beginning of its development. Fortunate will be all those, men and women, who participate in it, to the fullest extent possible.
If, for any reason, or for a reason you mention in your letter, this is not feasible in your view, you should settle as close as possible to the place where you carry out your sacred mission. In this way, you will not waste time in transportation, going and coming. The same applies to your health and to the many thoughts that can result from it. Moreover, there is every reason to believe that your future wife will find there ample opportunities to make full use of her abilities, as you describe them.
I would add that, based on what your letter seems to indicate, you have drawn up an extensive plan of what you intend to do before getting married. I do not know the precise prices in the Holy Land. Nevertheless, the broad outlines of what you indicate could be very expensive, and I therefore wonder whether you will have the means. Even if you can command such a considerable sum, it is not certain that it is wise to invest it in a down-payment and in furniture.
It is quite clear that the external beauty of furniture or even of the walls of the house are not the fundamental elements of a Jewish home. There is no need to say more, so obvious is this, especially for someone who has the merit of being a student of a Chassidic* Yeshivah*, of the Yeshivah Tomchei Temimim*.
May Hashem guide you on the path that will be good for you and for your future wife, materially and spiritually alike.
With my blessing that you give good news, of true good, regarding everything that has been said, and that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,
M. Schneerson,
