Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letter of 10 Elul.

As you request, I will mention both of your names, as well as those of your children, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that you be in good health, earn a proper livelihood, and all remain at peace.

It would be good to have the Mezuzos* of your home checked, to ensure that they are all kosher* in accordance with the Halachah*. You should also have your Tefillin* checked. Each weekday, before prayer, you should give a few cents to tzedakah*. After prayer, you should recite at least one Psalm* each day.

You mention the relationship of your children with their parents, which is not what it should be. One must ask whether such a situation does not stem, as is very often the case, from the fact that the parents did not observe the laws of family purity* at the time these children were born.

If this is indeed the case, Heaven forbid, the parents must make a firm resolution to do everything in their power to ensure that their friends and acquaintances observe and strengthen this mitzvah*. This repairs, to a certain extent, the grave fault committed by the parents toward themselves and toward their children by not observing family purity.

In this way, the Holy One, blessed be He, will see that the parents sincerely regret what they have done, distance themselves from such conduct and distance others from it, and commit themselves even more firmly to the path of Torah*.

You tell me that in the coming days, your wife will be hospitalized for observation. May Hashem grant that this take place at a good and auspicious time and that she experience success. Until she leaves the hospital, she should place a few cents each weekday into a tzedakah box.

May Hashem grant you the success of announcing good news to me regarding everything that has been said.
