Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, which was undated.

You ask me to forgive you for not having taken part in the elections (1). It is quite clear that this is not a personal concern and that, all the more so, I bear you no ill will.

I wrote to you and made my decisive position publicly known: whoever can vote — because he has accepted possessing an identity card, because he pays taxes to the state, because he lends his support in other domains, because he fears being imprisoned (2) or losing the comforts to which he has become accustomed, because he possesses, for example, running water and does not go to a well (3) — is all the more obligated to vote, which will not result in aiding any particular administration.

Indeed, one vote less on the most Orthodox list correspondingly increases the weight of the lists that oppose Hashem and His Torah*.

במענה על מכתבו מבלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה:

במ"ש שאני אמחול על מה שלא השתתף בבחירות. הנה פשיטא שאין זה ענין פרטי שלי עאכו"כ קפידא שי, אלא כמו שכתבתי וגם פרסמתי דעתי ברבים שברור הדבר שכל מי שיש לו הרשות להשתתף בבחירות (היינו שלקח תעודת זהות ומשלם מסים בהמדינה, ועוזר בשאר הענינים שלה, כי ירא הוא שמא יאסרו אותו או שלא תהי' הנוחיות שלא הורגל וכמו שירות המים ולא ממימי הבאר, וכיו"ב), הרי מחויב הוא עאכו"כ להשתתף בבחירות שאין בזה כל סיוע לאיזה משרד שהוא ומיעוט קול אחד ברשימה היותר חרדית, מגביר החשיבות הערכית של רשימות המנגדים על ה' ותורתו...
