With the help of Hashem

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, man of many accomplishments, of generous disposition, Rav Aryeh (1),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the fourth day of the month of mercy (2).

I read with pleasure what you tell me of your visits to various places, of the mission you assume toward all hearts that seek Hashem. No doubt you will redouble your ardor in this, and Hashem will grant you success. By acting in a friendly manner, by applying the saying of the Alter Rebbe* that "you shall love your fellow as yourself" is the vessel for "you shall love Hashem your Elokim*," you will strengthen "the candle that is a mitzvah* and the Torah* that is a light," as well as the luminaire of the Torah (3). You will direct them toward the corners that are materially astray, in which you will accomplish the refinement and elevation of the sparks of holiness.

For this, one must awaken the hearts of those who reside in these places toward our Father Who is in Heaven, awaken in them in a concrete manner the spark of true Divinity (4) that every Jew possesses and which always remains faithful to Hashem. By explaining all of this to them, you will know how to comfort them, as well as through the relatively lengthy exposition found in particular in the holy Tanya*, from chapter 28 onward.

I took note with pleasure of the explanations you give at the end of your letter regarding Rashi's* commentary at the end of Tractate* Ketubot*. I thank you very much for what you have transmitted to me and ask you to continue doing so in the future.

In your previous letter (5), you wrote to me that Michoel* is the High Priest above and that Aharon* fulfills this function below. Now, Aharon is cited first, by allusion, in the verse: "For today, Hashem has appeared to you (6)." I searched for this commentary in the Yalkut Shimoni*, according to the reference indicated in your letter, and for the time being I have not found it. It seems to be an error on the part of the one who made the transcription (7). The reference is, in fact, the Megaleh Amukos*, at the beginning of Parshas* Shemini*, and the Shnei Luchos HaBris*, at the same reference.

On the occasion of the new year which approaches, for us and for all of Israel, for good and for blessing, I extend my blessing, to you and to all of yours, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

במענה על מכתבו מיום הרביעי לחדש הרחמים.

נעם לי לקרות במכתבו מה שכותב אודות ביקוריו במקומות השונים ועבודתו במקצוע המיוחד אשר כל לבבות דורש ה', ובודאי גם בעבודה זו יוסיף אומץ, והשי"ת יצליחו אשר ע"י דרכי נועם וכפתגם רבנו הזקן אשר ואהבת לרעך כמוך היא הכלי לואהבת את ה' אלקיך, יתגברו נר מצוה ותורה אור ומאור שבתורה וימציאם גם לפנות אלו הנדחות בגשמיות ובמילא יזכך ויעלה משם הניצוצות הקדושות ע"י התעוררות לב כל אחד הנמצאים שם לאבינו שבשמים והגילוי אצלו בפועל של החלק אלקה ממעל ממש הנמצא בכל אחד מישראל ואשר תמיד היתה באמנה אתו, ובודאי ההסברה בהנ"ל מעודדים את רוחם, וגם בענינים המבוארים בארוכה לפ"ע בתניא קדישא פרק כח, לא ועוד.

נעם לי לקרות מהני מילי מעלייתא שבסיום מכתו ברש"י סוף כתובות, ות"ח ת"ח על העבר בכתיבה זו ובקשה גם על להבא. ובהמשך למה שכתב לי במכתבו הקודם בהרמז שמיכאל כהן גדול למע' ואהרן כהן גדול למטה ואהרן קודם ונרמז בהכתוב כי היום ה' נאה אליכם, הנה חפשתי זה בילקוט שמעוני ככתוב במכתבו ולע"ע לא נמצא, כנראה הוא טעות המעתיק, כי מקומו במגלה עמוקות ר"פ שמיני ובשל"ה שם.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
