To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and carries out a sacred mission,

Rav Zeev Tzvi (Rav Z. T. Weber),

I have duly received your letter of 12 Elul.

You cite the statement of our Sages that "there is not a blade of grass below that does not have a mazal* [constellation] above." You therefore ask me how the constellation can divide itself in two, bestowing upon some both good and evil, and upon others no good at all. Indeed, the animal soul of a Jew contains both good and evil, whereas that of the nations derives from the three forces of total impurity.

It is quite clear that in such a case, it is not the same constellation, Heaven forbid. The Klipas Nogah* serves as an intermediary, and ultimately, it will be fully integrated into the domain of holiness. This is not so for the three Klipos*, which cannot undergo elevation, as it is stated: "I will remove the spirit of impurity from the earth."

הוו"ח אי"א נו"נ מלאכתו מלאכת שמים

מכתבו מי"ב אלול נתקבל... במה שהעיר ממרז"ל אין לך עשב מלמטה שאין לו מזל מלמעלה, וא"כ איך אפשר שמזל אחד יחלק שתי מנות לאלה חלק מטוב ורע ולאלה בלי טוב כלל. היינו נה"ב שבישראל שהיא מעורבת טוב ורע ונפשות או"ה שהם מג"ק הטמאות לגמרי.

הנה מובן שאין זה מזל אחד* ח"ו, כי זהו קליפת נוגה הממוצעת ועולה לקדושה סו"ס, משא"כ ג"ק שאין להם בירור ואת רוח הטומאה אעביר מן הארץ. ואם כוונתו לאופן התהוות הרע בכלל, יעוין בתו"א ד"ה להבין ענין הברכות ובלקו"ת לג' פרשיות שם.
