To the Rav, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Pinchas Leibish (Rav P. L. Herzl, of Yerushalayim*),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 4 Tishrei, and you have surely already received mine, which wished you a good year.

As you request, all the names you cite will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe [the Frierdiker Rebbe*], whose merit protects us, so that these individuals may have a good and sweet year.

You served as the emissary to transmit their request, and you will therefore surely explain to them what is stated in various texts, an excerpt of which was reproduced in the Hayom Yom* calendar, regarding the manner of establishing a bond (with the Rebbe*).

This bond is the channel through which one receives blessing, and to this end, one should first and foremost maintain the three daily studies that concern everyone, instituted by the one who invokes Divine mercy on their behalf — my father-in-law, the Rebbe. They pertain to Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, and are well known.

As for the women, they should give tzedakah* before lighting candles on the eve of Shabbos* and the festivals. All should have their tefillin* and the mezuzos* of their homes examined to ensure that they are kosher*, in accordance with halachah*.

With my blessing that you share good tidings of all this and be definitively sealed for a good year,

הנה כבקשתו יזכירו את כל אלה שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, לשנה טובה ומתוקה, וכיון ששליח הוא להביא בקשתם, בטח יסבירם הכתוב בכמה מקומות, והועתק קטע מזה גם בלוח היום יום על דבר אופני ההתקשרות, שההתקשרות הוא הצנור לקבלת הברכה, ולכל לראש שמירת שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש, תקנת מעורר ר"ר הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, ובהנוגע להנשים תחיינה, נתינה לצדקה קודם הדלקת הנרות בכל עש"ק וערב יו"ט, ובכולם בדיקת התפילין ובדיקת המזוזות בבתיהם שיהיו כשרות כדין.
