To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Chananya (Rav C. Lugafy, of Yerushalayim*),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you tell me about your occupation. You are the watchman of an office building, sometimes during the day and sometimes at night.

I heard my father-in-law, the Rebbe [the Frierdiker Rebbe*], whose merit protects us, the leader of Israel*, on several occasions allude to people who held such positions and emphasize that they should know passages of Torah* by heart, in order to recite them during their work. To the extent possible, it would be good for you to adopt this practice. These Torah* passages should include Tehillim*, Mishnah*. It would also be good for you to know at least one chapter of Tanya* by heart. The more of these texts you commit to memory, the better.

As you request, I will mention your name and those of the members of your family that you cite at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. In this year that is beginning, Hashem will grant you success and you will make the best use of your time. When the time comes, you will find a position that is suitable for you, materially and spiritually alike, as will the members of your family.

You surely know the three daily studies that apply to everyone, instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe. They pertain to Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, and are well known. In any event, you will adopt them in the future.

במענה על מכתבו, בו כותב אודות המשרה שלו, אשר שומר הנהו בבניני המשרדים עתים ביום ועתים בלילה.

והנה שמעתי איזה פעמים מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל מהנהגת אנשים במשרות כמו אלו, שהי' בזכרונם עניני תורה בעל פה, ובעת היותם במשרה היו חוזרים על זה, ומהנכון שבמדה האפשרית גם הוא יתנהל על דרך זה, ועניני התורה יהיו, תהלים, משניות ומה טוב לכל הפחות פרק אחד תניא, והמרבה הרי זה משובח.

כבקשתו יזכירו אותו ואת ב"ב שי' שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ובשנה שנמצאים אנו בתחלתה, יצליחו השי"ת לנצל הזמן עתה בטוב ביותר ובמשך הזמן להסתדרות טובה לפניו ולפני ב"ב שיחיו בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.

בטח יודע משלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, ועל כל פנים ישמור אותם מכאן ולהבא.
