To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Yehuda Yochanan (Rav Y. Y. Safranai, of Lod),

Greetings and blessings,

I have finally received your letter, which followed a particularly long silence. Yet you do not specify what your activity is in general, nor your study of the revealed dimension of Torah* and Chassidus* in particular. The latter should be in addition to the three daily studies that concern everyone — Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya* — which are well known. No doubt you will specify all of this at the next opportunity.

All those you mention will be cited at a propitious moment at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe [the Frierdiker Rebbe*], whose merit protects us, the leader of Israel*. It is surely unnecessary to remind you, as well as your wife, of the need, as required, to draw ever closer to our Father in Heaven the hearts of those you cite in your letter. And words that emanate from the heart penetrate into the heart. These people surely know the teachings of Chassidus*, its customs, and its practices. If not, you will make these known to them. May Hashem grant that you know success in this area as well.

As for that young man (the recipient of the following letter), it should be explained to him that he must use his abilities, his zeal, and his talents to disseminate Judaism in the environment where he currently finds himself. For Judaism is not merely faith of the heart. It has, in addition, a comprehensive scope, as it is stated: "To fear Hashem and observe His mitzvos* — this is the entire purpose of man."

It is certain that an effort is never in vain. To be sure, all beginnings are difficult, but this young man desired, of his own free will, to settle in such an environment. Through this choice, he has therefore taken upon himself the commitment to devote all his strength to the mission just defined. May Hashem grant that he know success.

In accordance with your request, I enclose a letter for this young man. If he needs additional explanations, you will surely find the words to provide them.

I send you my blessing for a good settling in, materially and spiritually, that your home be a true Chassidic household, in abundance and in good health.

Due to the sanctity of the festival (this letter is written during Chol HaMoed Sukkos*), the Rebbe shlita* does not sign this letter, and I do so in his stead,

שלום וברכה!

לאחרי שתיקתו הכי ארוכה סו"ס נתקבל מכתבו, וגם בו אינו כותב מהתעסקותו בכלל ומשעוריו בתורת הנגלה והחסידות בפרט - נוסף על שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, ובטח ימלא בהזדמנות הבאה.

בעת רצון יזכירו את כל אלה שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל. ובודאי למותר לעוררו ואת זוגתו - שיחיו ע"ד ההשתדלות אצל כל אלו שמזכיר במכתבו וזקוקים לזה לקרב לבם יותר ויותר לאבינו שבשמים ללימוד תורתנו תורת חיים וקיום מצותי' כדבעי, ודברים היוצאים מן הלב נכנסים אל הלב. ובטח יודעים או שיודעים מתורת החסידות הדרכותי' ומנהגי', ויהי רצון שגם בזה יצליח.

מה שכותב אודות האברך... צריך הי' להסבירו, אשר עליו לנצל כל יכולתו וכל מרצו וכל כשרונותיו להפיץ היהדות בהסביבה בה נמצא עתה. והיהדות פירושה לא רק אמונה שבלב בלבד לא במילואה, וכמ"ש את האלקים ירא ואת מצותיו שמור כי זה כל האדם, וחזקה לתעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם. ואף שכל התחלות קשות, הנה כיון שמרצונו הטוב בחר להכנס לסביבה זו, הרי ע"י בחירה זו עצמה לקח על עצמו האחריות לעבוד בכל כחו למילוי תפקיד האמור לעיל, ויה"ר שיצליח.

כהצעתו מוסג"פ מכתב להאברך... שי', ואם נצרך לעוד הסברה - בטח ימצא האותיות המתאימות.

בברכה להסתדרות טובה בגשמיות וברוחניות, ושיהי' ביתם בית חסידותי באמת ומתוך הרחבה ובריאות הנכונה.
