Greetings and blessings,

I received, in due time, initial information, followed by the good news that the surgical operation of your wife went well and was successful. May Hashem, "Who heals all flesh and performs wonders," grant that she regain her strength promptly, and that in the future you share with me only good tidings, always and every day.

You know the meaning of the statement of our Sages: "Every year that is poor at its beginning becomes rich at its end." A distinction is thus made between the time that precedes the sounding of the shofar* and the prayers (of Rosh Hashanah*), on the one hand, and the time that follows them, on the other.

Before these, one is still subject to judgment. Then, through the sounding of the shofar* and the prayers, Hashem leaves the throne of strict justice and takes His place on the throne of mercy. At that point, all the children of Israel* — as it is stated, "Your entire people are tzaddikim*" — are immediately inscribed and sealed in the book of the righteous.

Then, throughout the year, each day receives its specific contribution, forging the receptacles that elicit and absorb the good that was obtained on Rosh Hashanah*. These receptacles are Torah* and mitzvos*. One of them is the exertion of a positive influence upon one's fellow.

How much more so for one to whom Hashem has granted abilities in the domain of education. Such a person must make full use of all his abilities in order to train students who possess fear of Hashem, who study Torah* and practice mitzvos*.

The merit of the public comes to your aid and enables you to reveal abundant blessing and success in all that concerns you and the members of your family.

בעתו קבלתי הידיעה הראשונה ואח"כ הבשורה טובה אשר נתוח של זוגתו תחי' מרת... עלה בסדר ובהצלחה, ויה"ר מהשי"ת הרופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות אשר תחזור לאיתנה בקרוב ומכאן ואילך אך טוב וחסד יבשר תכה"י.

וכבר ידוע הפירוש במאמר רז"ל כל שנה שהיא רשה בתחלתה מתעשרת בסופה, שהחילוק הוא מקודם התקיעות והתפלות, ולאחריהם, כי מקודם להם עדיין נמצאים בדין ומשפט וע"י התקיעות והתפלות פועלים אשר הקב"ה עומד מכסא דין ויושב על כסא רחמים, וכל בני ישראל ועמך כולם צדיקים נכתבים ונחתמים לאלתר בספרן של צדיקים. ובמשך השנה הנה כל יומא ויומא עביד עבידתי' לעשות כלים להמשכת וקבלת הטוב שנפסק לו בר"ה, אשר כלים אליו הם עניני תורה ומצות ואחד מהם השפעה על הזולת, ובפרט מי שחננו השי"ת לכשרון לחנך, שינצל את כל האפשריות במילואה להעמיד תלמידים יר"ש לומדי תורה ומקיימי מצות, וזכות הרבים מסייעתו וממשכת רוב ברכה והצלחה בהנוגע לו ולכל ב"ב שיחיו.
