To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Yochanan (Rav Y. Gordon), the shochet*, secretary of the Lubavitcher synagogue of Lubavitch, in Brooklyn, New York,

Greetings and blessings,

At the conclusion of the month of Tishrei* — which has a comprehensive scope affecting the entire year, and which is "satiated" (Tishrei being the seventh month from Nissan*, and the word shevi'i — "seventh" — sharing the same root as musba — "satiated") with all the good, so as to preserve it throughout the year — I reiterate my blessings that for many years you continue to assume your functions as secretary of the Lubavitcher synagogue of Lubavitch, in a Chassidic spirit.

This will find expression in fruitful activity to increase the number of those who pray there, and also to enhance their quality by establishing regular study sessions. These should cover the revealed dimension of Torah* and Chassidus*, in keeping with the tradition of Jewish communities and especially that of Chabad*. These study sessions can surely be arranged so that they do not interfere with the study schedules of the Yeshivah*.

And it is known how greatly our Sages emphasize, in tractate Berachos* 18a, the importance of the union of synagogues and houses of study. The merit of the public depends upon you.

With my blessing for success in all that has been said, in good health and with Chassidic satisfaction from your wife, may she live long, and from all your children,

בשילהי חדש תשרי, הוא החדש הכללי דכל שנה כולה, המושבע בכל טוב ע"מ להמשיכו בכל השנה, הנני בזה לכפול ברכותי, אשר עוד רבות בשנים ינהג גבאות בביהכ"נ דליובאוויטש בליובאוויטש ברוח חסידותי, ויבוא זה לפועל גם בהשתדלות - בהצלחה - לרבות כמות המתפללים ולהגביה איכותם ע"י קביעות שיעורים בבית הכנסת, הן בנגלה והן בחסידות, וכנהוג בבתי כנסיות בני ישראל ובפרט בבתי כנסיות חב"ד. ובודאי יש ואפשר לסדר השיעורים באופן שלא יבלבלו לסדרי הישיבה.

וכבר ידוע איך שהפליגו רז"ל במעלת התאחדות בית הכנסת ובית המדרש גם יחד (ברכות ח, ע"א), וזכות הרבים תלוי בו.

בברכת הצלחה בכל האמור לעיל מתוך בריאות הנכונה ונחת חסידותי ביחד עם זוגתו שתליט"א מכל יו"ח שיחיו,
