Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you tell me that you are preparing to receive rabbinical ordination, with the help of Hashem.

May Hashem grant that you reflect sincerely on what rabbinical ordination truly is — which, according to the Torah*, enables a person to teach and to distinguish between what is forbidden and what is permitted. Indeed, a forbidden element is imprisoned within the forces of evil and cannot receive elevation before the redemption, whereas a permitted one obtains this elevation through the effort of the person, as the Tanya* explains.

Such a reflection will set you on the right path and enable you to interpret your study in order to establish the halachah* and render judgment in truth. The Mishnah* indicates how one achieves all of this. In such a case, the fear of Hashem must precede knowledge. It is in this manner that the latter endures.

You have surely set aside a fixed time for the study of Chassidus*, the luminary of the Torah*, which also illuminates its revealed dimension, so that one may more easily determine the will of the One Who gives the Torah*.

With my blessing,

For the Rebbe shlita*,
