Blessings and greetings (this letter is addressed to a woman),

I am responding to your letter of 14 Cheshvan, in which you tell me that teaching the students (female) of your class interests you less this year than in previous years, because these students have a more limited capacity for understanding than the previous ones.

Now, it is clear that the opposite should have been true. Such a situation should produce a greater desire and an extraordinary interest in bringing these students up to the level they should be at. Indeed, the purpose of each person is to transform the part of the world entrusted to him, in accordance with the faculties he receives from Hashem.

How much more is this so when it concerns the ability to provide a good education and to guide the young. A person is, indeed, created to increase the light in the world by spreading "the candle (which) is a mitzvah* and the Torah* (which) is a light."

Now, the reward is commensurate with the effort, and it is precisely with students whose abilities are not highly developed that one can, in the best possible way, put into practice the will of the Creator. And the Holy One, blessed be He, acts "measure for measure," but in a greatly increased manner. If one puts His will into practice despite the evil inclination, which tries to persuade that it is very difficult, one is answered by Hashem, Who grants everything one desires in one's heart.

May Hashem grant that with a little more strength and enthusiasm, you devote yourself to improving the situation of your class, so that it ascends from one level to the next. And you will reap the fruit of your effort, for one mitzvah* draws another, and you will soon be able to tell me that these students are achieving remarkable results — and also that Hashem has enabled you to find a good match, both materially and spiritually.
