Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 7 Cheshvan, which was sent together with that of 5 Kislev, in which you tell me about the person who visited you with the members of his family. You say that you have difficulty grasping the purpose of his visit.

You no doubt know the content of the letter of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, according to which, when a person is hungry and satiates himself by consuming bread and a meal, he thinks, certainly, about this bread, this meal, these foods and beverages. But in reality, the profound reason for his approach is the desire felt by his soul for the spark of Divinity found in the foods and beverages, in accordance with the explanation given of the verse: "Man does not live by bread alone, but by every Word of Hashem" found in this bread.

In any case, whatever the evident reason for this visit may be, it is certain that on a deeper level, you can bring them something in the domain of Jewish practice. These souls therefore brought about the circumstances that enabled them to visit you, so that you remind them of their mission, that you draw their hearts closer to our Father Who is in Heaven.

It is surely unnecessary to say more, so obvious is this. I merely wanted to point out that you must reflect and seek every opportunity enabling you to accomplish all of this concretely, in the appropriate manner.

Obviously, this applies equally to the neighbor you mention in your letter. In this regard, she showed you the mezuzah* she purchased, and it would therefore be good to check it, at least superficially, to ensure it is kosher*.

You communicate to me what the doctor says about your wife. There is no reason to dwell on this point, especially since your request for a blessing will be read at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. You will convey all of this to your wife, with the appropriate firmness.

May Hashem grant that her pregnancy be easy and that she give birth with ease, in its time and in the proper manner.

במענה על מכתבו מז' חשון, ששלחו ביחד עם מכתבו מה' כסלו, בו כותב אודות הביקור אצלם של מר... וב"ב שיחיו ואשר קשה הי' לו לתפוס כוונת ביקורם.

ובטח יודע תוכן מכתב כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע שכתב לאחד, שכשהאדם רעב ומשביע רעבונו בלחם וסעודה, מחשבתו הוא על הלחם והסעודה מאכלים ומשקים, אבל פנימיות הדברים וסיבתם שנשמתו תאבה להניצוץ האלקי הנמצא במאכלים ומשקים אלו, וכנודע הפירוש על הפסוק כי לא על הלחם לבדו יחי' האדם כי על כל מוצא פי' ה' (שבלחם).

ואיך שתהי' כוונתם הגלוי', הפנימיות וסיבתה היא, שבודאי בידו לתקן מה בהנוגע לעניניהם ביהדות. וסיבבה נשמתם כמה סיבות וענינים שיבקרו אצלו, ובמילא יתעורר על המילוי תפקידו לקרב לבם לאבינו שבשמים. והאריכות בדבר המובן בטח אך למותר, ולא באתי אלא להעדפה שיתבונן ויחפש עוד הזדמנויות להביא כל הנ"ל בפועל באופן המתאים. ומובן שכל האמרו לעיל הוא גם בנוגע להשכנה שלהם אודותה כותב. - דא"ג, כיון שהראתה לו מזוזה שקנתה, כדאי הי' שיבדקו אותה עכ"פ בשטחיות אם כשרה היא.

מ"ש, אודות דברי הרופא למצב זוגתו תחי' - עס איז גאר ניטא וואס צו איבערטראכטען, ובפרט שהפ' שכתב יקרא על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בעת רצון, וימסור זה בתוקף המתאים לזוגתו תחי'.

והשי"ת ימלא ימי הריונה כשורה ובנקל ותלד זחו"ק בעתה ובזמנה כשורה ובקל.
