Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letter of 26 Cheshvan, in which you write that you have personally known a young man for several years. You are now considering becoming engaged to him, and although you have known him for a long time, you are having difficulty making a decision in this matter.

Engagement and marriage are for long days and good years. In this case, it would therefore be good for you to cease meeting for some time. This separation will bring forth the deep feeling, in the positive sense or the other. The Creator of the world will inspire in you the right idea and you will make the proper decision, materially and spiritually at once.

I am surprised that you say nothing about the education you received and your way of life. No doubt you will complete all of this at the next opportunity.

במענה על מכתבה מכ"ו חשון, בו כותבת אשר זה כמה שנים מכירה בחור פנים אל פנים, ועומדת עתה השאלה בהנוגע לשידוך עמו, ולמרות ההיכירות זה זמן רב קשה לה להחליט בזה.

ואם כן הוא, והרי שידוך ונשואין הם לאורך ימים ושנים טובות, כדאי שלאיזה זמן לא יפגשו זו עם זה, והפסק זה צריך להבליט את הרגש הפנימי אם בחיוב או וכו', ובורא עולם יתן בלבה הרעיון להחליט בטוב לפני' בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.

לפלא שאינה מזכירה דבר על דבר אופן חינוכה ואורח חייה, ובטח תמלא בהזדמנות הבאה.
